Capsule App creates desktop programs that live inside one file. Each .capsule file contains the interface, the data, and the logic needed to run. A person can build an application by describing it in plain language, then send the resulting file through a messaging service or email. The recipient opens the file and the program starts with everything already inside. No account, no server, and no database setup are part of the process.
The software is built for personal tools such as trackers, portfolios, and notes. It runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux from the same file. Data is stored locally in SQLite and remains with the application when the file moves between devices. Capsule supports AI prompts for generation and MCP tools for later changes. The format uses standard HTML and CSS, so the contents are not tied to a proprietary cloud system.
Capsule App is distributed as a standalone file format for people who want portable applications without cloud dependence. It combines local storage, AI-assisted creation, and cross-platform execution in a single container. The .capsule file can be copied, archived, or shared like an ordinary document. Mobile support for iOS and Android is planned. The project is developed in JavaScript and TypeScript and continues to receive updates for platform compatibility and generation features.
| Bundle interface, assets, schema, and SQLite into one file | Copy, move, or store capsule without losing application state |
| Convert natural language prompts into complete desktop applications | Generate functional containers without configuring build tools manually |
| Modify features, schema, or interface via follow-up AI prompts | Apply live updates preserving existing data and application logic |
| Embedded SQLite database stores structured records inside capsule | Data travels with application eliminating separate database server |
| Run without network access on plane or subway | Interface, logic, and data entirely contained within file |
| Same capsule opens on macOS, Windows, and Linux | No conversion or platform-specific build step required |
| Send capsules through WhatsApp, AirDrop, or email | Recipient opens file directly with data preloaded |
| Standard HTML and CSS avoid proprietary cloud dependency | Inspect, edit, or extract contents without vendor access |
| Data remains on device with no cloud storage or registration | File itself forms the storage boundary reducing breach exposure |
| MCP coding tools connect to refine schema and behavior | Technical users gain granular control over generated result |
| Build personal trackers, portfolios, recipe notes, project logs | Standalone program without subscription or online account |
| Launch as desktop program rather than browser tab | Local application performance across all supported operating systems |
