Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7: battery drain and download issues fixed
On October 9, 2026, Google began rolling out Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7 to Pixel owners. The new build, numbered CP41.260831.016, targets 23 models — from the Pixel 6a all the way up to the entire Pixel 11 lineup — and is also available for the Android emulator.
What exactly was fixed
The release notes mention two key changes:
- Standby battery drain. A bug was eliminated that prevented the phone from entering deep sleep when Flip to Shh was active, causing accelerated power consumption.
- HTTPS downloads. A problem was resolved where a file would immediately fail with an error if an app initiated the download through the system DownloadManager.
Flip to Shh is a signature Pixel feature that activates Do Not Disturb when the device is placed face down on a flat surface. The battery-life fix addresses only a specific glitch tied to this option; Google has not published any data showing a noticeable increase in runtime. Likewise, the DownloadManager patch affects only downloads made through the system component and does not extend to other ways apps download files.

Face Unlock warning for Pixel 11 Pro Fold
Google is reminding Pixel 11 Pro Fold owners that after the update they may need to re-register their face in Face Unlock, otherwise unlocking may not work correctly. This limitation carried over from Beta 6.1 and is still listed in the release notes. It does not apply to other models.
How to install and avoid mixing up branches
To receive the test build, a device must be enrolled in the Android Beta for Pixel program — after that, updates arrive over the air. Google advises creating a backup beforehand, since preview builds may contain bugs that affect daily use.
When checking for updates, it is important to look at the branch name. On October 2, Google released Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1, so if the system offers QPR3, that means switching to testing the next quarterly release. If a device is running QPR2 Beta 6.1 and receives an offer to install QPR3 Beta 1, that package will not update it to QPR2 Beta 7.
For manual installation, full OTA packages for QPR2 Beta 7 have been published — they can be used to move from Beta 6.1 to Beta 7 if the over-the-air update has not arrived yet. The package must be chosen strictly for your own model.
On the test OTA images page, Google recommends unlocking the bootloader before installation if possible. However, unlocking itself requires a full wipe and erases data, so it should not be done without a backup. Factory images are also available separately — flashing them likewise requires a full device reset.
Rolling back from a beta to the current stable Android usually involves deleting local data. An exception applies for a limited time after installing the stable release of the branch the user was testing, and before installing the next beta update.
Bugs can be reported through the Android Beta Feedback app — it is available in the app list and in quick settings. The Android Beta community on Reddit is also available for discussing issues.
Bottom line
Beta 7 will be most useful to QPR2 testers who have run into standby battery drain or system file download failures. Before installing, check which update branch is being offered and save important data. Pixel 11 Pro Fold owners should keep in mind that they may need to set up Face Unlock again.
