Actual Installer

Actual Installer — Free Download. Windows Setup Builder

Actual Installer is a software installation authoring tool for creating setup packages for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows applications. It supports install, update, and uninstall processes. The program enables developers to build single executable installers, online installers, and separate data packages for large applications. It handles file copying, shortcut creation, registry modification, license agreements, prerequisites, system requirement checks, file associations, font registration, ActiveX components, and custom commands. Multilingual installation packages with auto-detect functions are available. The interface includes templates for Classic Wizard and Modern installations, with a template editor for customization. Silent installation mode is supported for unattended deployment across multiple computers.

  • Single Executable Installer. Compiles all installation files and configuration settings into one standalone Setup.exe file. This file can be uploaded to a website, distributed on optical media, or shared through other channels. The installer contains all necessary components for a complete installation process without requiring external dependencies. This feature simplifies distribution and reduces the number of files end users must manage.
  • 32-bit and 64-bit Support. Creates native installation packages for both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows systems. For 64-bit applications, the installer places files in appropriate 64-bit directories such as C:\Program Files and registers components in the 64-bit section of the Windows Registry. For 32-bit applications, the installer works on both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows versions since x64 systems support 32-bit software execution.
  • Software Prerequisites. Allows specifying third-party software requirements that must be present for the main application to function correctly. Supported prerequisites include Microsoft .NET Framework, Visual C++ Redistributable, SQL Server, Crystal Reports, and custom packages. These prerequisites can be bundled inside the installer package or downloaded from specified URLs during the installation process. The installer checks for existing prerequisites and installs them only when absent.
  • Multilanguage Installation. Enables creation of installation packages supporting multiple languages with automatic detection of the user's system language. Separate text files, license agreements, or URLs can be assigned for each language. The installer selects the appropriate language version during execution. This feature removes the need to create separate installers for different regions and simplifies distribution across international markets.
  • Customizable Interface. Provides templates for Classic Wizard and Modern installation interfaces. The Template Editor allows modification of icons, logos, installation graphics, fonts, and all text messages. Custom components such as check boxes and combo boxes can be added to installation dialogs. Silent installation mode is available for unattended deployment across large numbers of computers without showing any user interface.
  • File Associations and System Registration. Registers file types, environment variables, fonts, COM components including DLL In-Proc servers and Type Libraries, .NET assemblies, and screen savers. These registrations ensure the installed application integrates with the Windows operating system. File associations allow users to open specific file types with the installed program directly from Windows Explorer or through default application settings.
  • Registry and INI File Modification. Modifies Windows Registry keys and INI configuration files during installation. Developers can create, edit, or delete registry entries and INI file sections. This capability supports applications that store configuration data in the registry or in INI files. The installer applies these modifications automatically without requiring manual user intervention or separate configuration scripts.
  • System Requirements Checking. Verifies system specifications before installation proceeds. Checks include Windows version and bitness, administrator privileges, Internet connection availability, and running processes that might interfere with installation. If requirements are not met, the installer displays appropriate messages and prevents installation on incompatible systems. This feature reduces support requests caused by failed installations on unsupported configurations.
  • Custom Actions and Data Reading. Executes custom commands before, during, and after installation or uninstallation. Commands can run external programs, scripts, or system utilities. The data reading feature extracts values from Windows Registry, INI files, or any text file into variables. Internet files can also be read into variables. These capabilities enable flexible installation logic tailored to specific application needs.
  • Update and Patch Creation. Generates update installers and patches that modify existing installations without performing a full reinstall. The update utility helps distribute new versions of applications to users. Updates can be configured to check for existing installations, apply changes, and preserve user settings. Patches add functionality or fix issues in previously installed versions.
  • Uninstallation Management. Creates uninstallers that remove the application from the system. By default, only files and folders created during installation are deleted. Full Uninstallation mode completely removes the product installation directory. The uninstaller can prompt users to keep or remove application settings and collect feedback about the reason for uninstallation. The application is registered in Windows Control Panel under Programs and Features.
  • Online Installer and Large Application Packaging. Creates a small setup file that downloads remaining application data during installation. For large products such as games or databases several gigabytes in size, the installer can generate a small Setup.exe and a separate large Data.zip file. This approach reduces initial download size and allows distribution of large applications through online channels.
  • Active Setup Support. Implements the Active Setup mechanism for executing commands once per user during logon. This feature sets up initial application configuration for new users logging on for the first time. Active Setup ensures each user receives proper application settings without requiring manual configuration or administrator intervention after the initial installation.
  • Variables and Path Management. Provides many variables for replacing actual paths during installation. Variables include Program Files, CommonAppData for ProgramData, and AppData for user-specific application data. UNC paths such as \\server\share\path\file are supported. Unicode and long file paths exceeding 260 characters are handled correctly. These features ensure compatibility with various system configurations and storage locations.
