iClock

iClock — Free Download. Countdown Timer

iClock is a floating countdown timer for Windows designed for deep work sessions and time-boxed tasks. The application places a transparent timer directly on the desktop, where it remains visible without interfering with other programs. Countdown values can be formatted in several ways, colors and font sizes are adjustable, and a global hotkey controls start and pause from any active window. When the countdown reaches zero, the overlay disappears and a top-most alert with a sound reminder appears, requiring acknowledgment. Session data is written to local daily logs, and the interface supports English and Simplified Chinese.

  • Floating overlay timer. Displays the remaining time as a compact floating element above the desktop and other windows. The overlay can be moved to any screen position and keeps the countdown visible during work in editors, browsers, presentations, or full-screen applications. Its visual style is separated from the main window, so the timer stays present without occupying a full application window.
  • Click-through mode. Activates the native Windows transparent window style so mouse input passes through the timer to the application underneath. Buttons, text fields, and game controls remain reachable even when the countdown numbers overlap them. This mode prevents the overlay from capturing focus or interrupting keyboard and mouse actions in the active program.
  • Global hotkey control. Starts and pauses the countdown through a system-wide key combination, with Ctrl+Alt+Space assigned by default. The hotkey works while another program is in the foreground, including full-screen editors, games, and slide shows. No switching to the timer window is required to begin, stop, or resume a session.
  • Top-most completion alert. Shows a persistent dialog above all other windows when the countdown ends. The alert includes the number of seconds past zero and a sound signal. It remains on screen until the operator confirms it, which reduces the chance of missing a deadline during concentrated work.
  • Custom time formats. Supports HH:MM:SS, MM:SS, and localized time units for different counting styles. The format can be selected according to the length of the task, from short intervals to multi-hour sessions. Displayed values update continuously and remain readable at various font sizes.
  • Font size and color adjustment. Changes the size of the countdown digits and the color through an RGB picker. The result can be matched to the desktop background, a specific application theme, or a preferred contrast level. Text remains distinct from the underlying content without requiring a separate window frame.
  • Daily focus logs. Records each session start time, duration, and final status in local TSV files. Status values include completed, reset, and interrupted, which gives a structured record of work intervals. Logs are grouped by day and stored in the user application data folder for later review.
  • Bilingual interface. Switches between English and Simplified Chinese from the application settings. Menu labels, dialogs, and status messages follow the selected language. The change applies without reinstalling or restarting the operating system.
  • Offline operation. Performs all timer, logging, and display functions without network access. No telemetry, tracking, or remote requests are generated during normal use. Settings and history remain on the local machine in the application data directory.
  • Single-file executable. Runs from one standalone file without an installer, external runtime, or additional libraries. The executable can be placed in any folder and started directly, which simplifies transfers between computers and keeps the system free of registry entries.
  • Low resource consumption. Uses native Windows rendering and maintains a small memory footprint during countdown. CPU load remains near zero, and the timer does not create a growing number of heap allocations while running. This behavior suits long sessions alongside demanding applications.
  • Package manager installation. Provides installation through Windows Package Manager with the command winget install FrancoDeyvison.iClock and through Scoop. Updates and removals follow the same package manager workflow. Manual use of the standalone executable remains available without either package manager.
  • Silent update check. Detects available versions in the background without opening disruptive popups during a session. When an update is present, the application can inform the operator through its normal interface. The check does not interrupt the countdown or change local settings.

iClock app is developed by the iClock Project. The program was created in 2024 for Windows and written in C# using native Windows APIs and GDI+ rendering. Development focused on a small executable, low memory use, and predictable countdown behavior during full-screen work. The project is maintained by Franco Deyvison and distributed through the official iClock Project channels, including Windows Package Manager and Scoop. Version history follows a compact release model: the standalone executable remains the primary distribution format, while package manager entries provide installation and update handling. Interface localization covers English and Simplified Chinese, and session logs remain in a local TSV format.
