Batch Picture Resizer

Batch Picture Resizer — Free Download. Bulk image resizing

Batch Picture Resizer (SoftOrbits) is an offline Windows program for bulk image processing. It resizes hundreds or thousands of pictures in one pass, converts between JPEG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC, RAW and more than 70 other formats, compresses files to a target size in kilobytes, adds watermarks, renames files and rotates photos using EXIF data. All operations run locally on the computer, so images are never uploaded to a server. The application uses all available CPU cores, keeps the original folder structure on output, and works with single files, whole folders or command-line scripts. It handles animated GIF and multipage TIFF files as well as camera RAW data from Canon, Nikon and other manufacturers, making it suitable for large photo archives, product listings and web preparation.

  • Batch resizing by resolution. Sets the exact width and height in pixels for every loaded image. The user can lock the aspect ratio so proportions stay correct, or unlock it for free distortion. Values are applied to the whole queue in a single run, which removes the need to edit each photo separately. This mode is intended for preparing images for fixed layouts, thumbnails or printing where exact dimensions are required.
  • Batch resizing by percentage. Scales every image by a chosen percent value, for example 50% or 200%. The operation keeps the original proportions automatically and works well when the source files have different dimensions but need the same relative reduction. It is used to shrink large archives, cut storage space or prepare photos for faster upload.
  • Device and preset sizes. Contains prepared dimensions for common targets such as phone screens, tablets, monitors and email attachments. Selecting a preset fills the width and height fields automatically, so a full folder can be adapted to a known device or service without manual calculation. Custom presets can also be saved and reused.
  • Long side matching. Resizes images so that the longer edge equals a specified value while the shorter edge is recalculated proportionally. This mode is intended for photo collections with mixed portrait and landscape orientation, where a single constraint must be applied to all files and the aspect ratio must stay untouched.
  • Smart Crop. Crops the image to an exact aspect ratio before or after resizing. The algorithm removes the least important parts of the frame, usually from the edges, so the subject stays centered. It is used for store listings, social media and any case where a fixed square or rectangular frame is required.
  • Target file size compression. Compresses images to a chosen size in kilobytes by adjusting JPEG quality automatically. The user sets a limit, for example 200 KB, and the program reduces quality until the file fits. This is applied to email attachments, web pages and upload forms with strict size limits.
  • Format conversion. Converts images between JPEG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC, RAW, BMP, PSD, TIFF, GIF, PCX, JPEG 2000 and TGA. It also converts CR2 and NEF to JPEG and saves HEIC from phones as standard JPEG. The JPEG encoder supports Baseline mode for broad compatibility, and DPI values can be changed during export.
  • Animated GIF and multipage TIFF processing. Resizes animated GIF files and multipage TIFF documents without splitting them into separate frames. The GIF Compression and TIFF Compression options control quality and final file size. This is used for web banners, scanned documents and multi-page archives.
  • Watermarking. Adds a text or image watermark to every processed file. The position, transparency, size and color can be adjusted, and the watermark is applied to the whole batch in one operation. It protects intellectual property before publishing photos online or sending previews to clients.
  • Batch renaming. Renames files by adding a prefix, a suffix, a sequential number or a date. The Rename Files Tool applies the rule to the entire queue, which helps organize photo shoots, product catalogs and scanned archives into a consistent naming scheme.
  • Lossless rotation and flipping. Rotates or mirrors images using EXIF orientation metadata, so pixels are not re-encoded and quality is preserved. The rotation angle, interpolation method and overflow handling can be set. This is applied to photos taken with a rotated camera or scanned in the wrong orientation.
  • Color and contrast correction. Adjusts brightness, contrast, color balance and converts images to grayscale. The Effects panel applies these changes to all selected files. It is intended for quick normalization of photos taken under different lighting conditions before publishing or printing.
  • Canvas and DPI adjustment. Changes the canvas size, background color and DPI value of the output files. This is used when images must match a specific print resolution or when extra space must be added around the frame for layout purposes.
  • Multi-core processing. Distributes the workload across all CPU cores, so large batches finish faster than with single-thread processing. The speed advantage grows with the number of files, which matters for archives containing thousands of images.
  • Windows Explorer integration. Adds a right-click menu entry in Windows Explorer, so selected files or folders can be sent to the program directly. This removes the step of opening the application and importing files manually.
  • Command-line mode. Supports running resize, convert and rename operations from the command line. This allows automation through scripts, scheduled tasks and external tools. It is used by administrators and developers who process images as part of a larger workflow.
  • Folder structure preservation. Recreates the input folder tree inside the output directory. Subfolders are not flattened, so large organized archives keep their original layout after processing. This helps when only some folders are resized and the rest must remain untouched.
  • Skip smaller images option. Ignores files that are already below the target dimensions, so they are not enlarged or re-encoded. This prevents quality loss and unnecessary processing when a folder contains a mix of large and small images.

Batch Picture Resizer was created by SoftOrbits, a software company that develops image, video and document utilities for Windows. The program was first released in the early 2010s and has been updated since then with new format support and processing options. It is written in C++ using Windows native libraries, which gives direct access to CPU resources and file system operations. The development team focuses on offline desktop tools with one-time licensing, and the application has grown from a simple resizing utility into a multi-function batch image processor that handles RAW data, animated GIF files and command-line automation.
