CloneScan is a Windows utility that searches for duplicate files and repeated directories. It compares items by name, size, combined name and size, or SHA-1 content hash, and it can also detect copied folder structures. Grouped output, file masks, and a minimum size threshold keep scan results manageable for review.
The software computes content hashes in parallel across processor threads, which shortens verification of large file collections. Checked items are moved to the Recycle Bin rather than erased, and results can be exported to CSV. The tool is free for personal and commercial use and runs on Windows systems.
TKOSoft publishes CloneScan as freeware. Version 2.2 appeared on September 14, 2026 with faster scanning and additional controls for clone groups. The product targets cleanup of downloads, backups, archives, and project directories where extra copies accumulate over time.
| Match identical filenames ignoring size and content | Group repeated names for reviewing duplicated documents |
| Compare byte sizes to surface potential duplicates | Metadata-only scan enables fast initial cleanup passes |
| Combine filename and size for stricter duplicate matching | Ideal for synced folders and migrated archives |
| Compute SHA-1 hashes to identify byte-identical files | Verify backups and photo libraries despite renamed files |
| Build folder signatures to detect cloned directory structures | Locate duplicated project folders and redundant archives |
| File masks restrict scanning to chosen types or patterns | Multiple masks separated by commas, semicolons, bars |
| Minimum size threshold excludes trivial files from comparison | Focus scan on items consuming meaningful storage |
| Parallel multi-threaded hashing accelerates large collection verification | Distribute hashing across cores maintaining accuracy |
| Grouped results sorted by total recoverable size | Review clone sets before selecting items for removal |
| Move checked items to Recycle Bin reversibly | Export duplicate file and folder results to CSV |
| Navigate from result entry to containing folder | Inspect items in Explorer before deletion decisions |
