SheepTerm is a terminal application aimed at engineers who manage network hardware. It handles SSH, serial and local shell sessions in one window, applies vendor-specific colouring to device output and keeps connection details in a saved host list. Session logs, jump hosts and CSV import are part of the standard feature set.
The program stores all Windows data in a portable folder beside the executable, including hosts, settings and an encrypted password vault. Synchronisation through a personal Google Drive is optional and protected by a passphrase. The macOS version adds split panes and group export for sharing host lists without credentials.
SheepTerm requires Apple Silicon with macOS 26.4 or later on the Apple side, or Windows 10 and 11 x64 on the Microsoft side. The Windows build is not code-signed, so SmartScreen may prompt on first run; updates are verified with an Ed25519 signature instead. Linux and Share Link remain unavailable.
| Handles key exchange and cipher negotiation for remote login | Saved host entries store address, port, and credentials |
| Connects through serial ports to console-only devices | Configurable line speed, data bits, parity, and stop bits |
| Opens local shell in same window as network sessions | Shares emulator behaviour and key bindings across tabs |
| Parses device output by vendor family for colouring | Distinct formatting for interfaces, VLANs, and addresses |
| Organises connection details into logical device groups | Export and import simplifies configuration migration |
| Multiple sessions visible simultaneously in horizontal arrangement | Vertical splitting suits configuration comparison tasks |
| Writes session output to local log files | Search function scans stored logs for specific strings |
| Optional cloud sync with end-to-end encryption | Data written to operator's own storage account |
| Imports host lists from spreadsheet CSV files | Column mapping removes manual entry for large sets |
| Routes connections through intermediate jump host | Separate authentication for jump and target devices |
| Controls line break delivery for multi-line pasted text | Prevents unintended configuration fragment ordering |
| All stored data lives beside executable in Data folder | No registry or user profile directory writes |
| Credential vault requires passphrase before reading entries | Passwords never stored in clear text form |
| Host groups exported for colleague sharing without credentials | Authentication material excluded from exported files |
| Signature verification applied to downloaded application updates | Update process leaves Data folder untouched |
| Console and remote sessions kept side by side | Same tab and pane layout across connection types |
| Reduces scanning time across long configuration dumps | Vendor families include Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, and others |
| Hosts separated by site, role, or customer | Each entry holds terminal preferences and credential reference |
| Suits tracing events from earlier maintenance windows | Logs remain local unless operator relocates them |
| Portable archive ships without installation procedure | Encrypted password vault stored alongside session logs |
