PasteJUmp

• Clipboard jog wheel gesture. Hold Ctrl and tap V to step backward through the clip stack. A small overlay appears beside the text caret showing exactly what will paste when you release Ctrl. This avoids opening any window and keeps your hands on the keyboard. The gesture works as a direct replacement for the standard paste chord while adding history navigation.
• Caret-relative overlay placement. The overlay appears next to the text caret in applications that expose caret position to Windows. When an application hides the caret, such as browsers, Electron apps, or Visual Studio, the overlay centers on the target window. If that window is drawn above everything by Windows, like the Start menu, the overlay moves to a corner instead of hiding behind it.
• Join multiple clips into one paste. Select several rows in the history window and use Copy Joined to paste them as a single clip. The separator between clips is configurable. Images in the selection are left out and counted. A key binding exists for doing the same during the gesture, but it is switched off by default because most users paste twice rather than mark twice.
• Search the clip stack during the gesture. Press F while holding Ctrl and type a query. The stack narrows as you type, and no letter triggers an action while you are entering a query. This gives keyboard-only filtering without opening a separate search window.
• Full clipboard format preservation. Every clipboard format is retained when a clip is stored. A paste into Word arrives as it left Word. An Excel range pastes back into Excel with formatting intact. In a real Excel round trip, 24 of 25 formats were byte-identical, with the single difference being a locale field that Windows regenerates itself.
• Pin clips for quick access. Clips can be pinned so they stay at the top of the stack regardless of new copies. This is for items you paste repeatedly, such as email signatures, code templates, or account numbers. Pinned clips remain until unpinned manually.
• Filter the stack by content kind. The history view can be filtered to show only text, only images, only files, or only pinned clips. This reduces the visible list when you need a specific type of content among hundreds of entries.
• History window with full-text search. A dedicated window shows everything you have copied. It supports full-text search over all stored text, image previews that zoom and pan, and per-row actions such as copy, pin, delete, and join. The window can be opened with a configurable shortcut.
• Nineteen built-in themes. Light and Dark are included, along with Solarized, Catppuccin, Nord, Dracula, Tokyo Night, Monokai, Gruvbox, Kanagawa, and more. The theme applies as you step through the list in settings, giving immediate visual feedback.
• Custom theme support via JSON. A theme is a small JSON file of named colours. It inherits everything it does not set, so a three-line file that recolours the accent colour is a valid and complete theme. Users can place custom theme files in a folder and select them from the settings.
• Single executable, no installer. The program is one self-contained PasteJump.exe file. It does not require a .NET runtime on the target machine, does not install anything, and leaves nothing beside it. Portability means the executable can be moved to another machine and run directly.
• No account or telemetry. PasteJump does not require an account, does not connect to any server, and does not collect usage data. The only network call happens when you explicitly ask the program to check for updates. Clipboard contents never leave the machine.
• Stable and pre-release update channels. The update checker can be set to Stable or Pre-release channels. The Stable channel is the default and only reports full releases. Pre-release channel reports beta and release-candidate builds for users who want earlier access.
• Credits window for third-party components. A built-in Credits window lists the libraries and tools used during development. This covers UI frameworks, testing infrastructure, and theme colour palettes that were adapted from existing open-source projects.
• Coexistence with other clipboard managers. Shift+Insert is provided as a documented way to paste from PasteJump while another clipboard manager is running. This alternate chord avoids conflicts with programs that also hook Ctrl+V. A few applications bind Shift+Insert elsewhere, so it is not universal but works in most targets.
• Low-level keyboard hook with focus retention. The program installs a low-level keyboard hook to capture the Ctrl+V gesture. Focus is returned to the original application after pasting. Focus retention across a wide range of applications is verified by daily use rather than by automated measurement.
• Multi-monitor mixed-DPI overlay handling. The overlay placement accounts for monitors with different scaling factors. This has not been measured precisely because the development machine has two monitors reporting the same scaling, but the placement logic is written to handle mixed-DPI environments.
• Clipboard history size management. The number of stored clips is configurable. Old clips are dropped when the limit is reached, with pinned clips protected from automatic removal. The default limit balances memory use with enough history for typical workflows.
• Automated test coverage. The program is tested by 1130 automated tests plus a UI harness that renders every window in both Light and Dark themes. Tests cover clipboard format round trips, gesture handling, theme parsing, and search filtering.
• Corporate DLP workaround via Administrator mode. On some managed machines, endpoint data-loss-prevention policy routes keyboard input through a higher-privilege component that hides it from PasteJump. Ticking Always Run as Administrator restores the gesture in the affected application. The clipboard history window remains unaffected in all cases.

PasteJump was created as a ground-up reimplementation of aviaryan/Clipjump, an AutoHotkey v1 utility whose last commit was April 2016. The original program invented the unique gesture of walking a clipboard stack without opening a window. PasteJump is a reimplementation from observed behaviour, not a port, and no Clipjump code was copied. The program is written in C# using .NET 10 and WPF. Development began in 2025, and the first stable release was published in 2026. The project is maintained by Lokesh Govindu and is distributed as a single self-contained executable.
