AppGeek updates all installed software on a Windows PC in one pass. It reads the installed-programs registry and the Microsoft Store package list, matches them against the winget repository, and shows exactly which applications have a newer version available. You tick the ones you want and it runs them one after another. It also offers a catalogue of 67 common applications for fresh Windows installations and flags security-relevant updates such as browsers, PDF readers, and Java.

This flag helps users identify urgent updates before less critical ones.
• Detection of running applications. Before an update run starts, AppGeek checks whether any selected application is currently open. If a running process is found, the user receives a notification. This prevents installation failures that occur when an installer cannot overwrite locked files.
• System restore point creation. AppGeek can create a system restore point before executing any updates. The user can also configure the tool to shut down the machine after the update run completes. This option is designed for overnight update sessions on unattended systems.
• Export of installed software inventory. AppGeek generates a complete list of all installed applications and exports it as CSV or HTML. The export includes every detected program and Store package. This output can be used for audits, system rebuilds, or hand-over documentation.
• Administrator scope matching. AppGeek detects whether each installed application was installed per-user or machine-wide. It then pins winget to the same installation scope for that specific package. This prevents an update from relocating an existing installation to a different scope.
• Refusal of uncertain package matches. When AppGeek cannot confirm a package match with high confidence, it refuses to proceed with that update. The tool never guesses an application identity. This avoids installing a different product with a similar name over an existing program.
• Standalone portable executable. AppGeek is distributed as a single portable executable in addition to the installer. The portable version runs without installation and leaves no registry entries or system files behind. Both versions provide the same scanning and updating functionality.

AppGeek was first released in 2023. The program is written in C# and uses the Windows Presentation Foundation for its interface. It was created by a small team of independent developers who maintain the project on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. The tool relies on Microsoft's winget package manager as its backend for repository matching and installer execution.
