MixDesk X

MixDesk X — Free Download. Audio routing

MixDesk X transforms a Mac or Windows PC into a comprehensive software mixing console. It captures system audio or individual applications without virtual cable drivers, routes audio to up to 16 stereo output buses, and applies up to 31-band EQ with a real-time analyzer and one-click Auto-EQ on every channel. It provides PFL per channel with a dedicated cue output, per-bus delay for speaker synchronization, a safety limiter, and hosts CLAP plugins including a free pack of approximately 400 effects. Presets store complete routing configurations.

  • System Audio Capture. The software captures all audio playing on the computer through WASAPI Process Loopback on Windows 10 2004 and newer, or ScreenCaptureKit on macOS 13 and newer. MixDesk X automatically excludes its own output from the capture stream, preventing feedback loops. This function operates without installing any virtual audio cable driver and serves as the primary input source for system-wide equalization.
  • Per-Application Capture. Individual applications such as Spotify, web browsers, games, or Discord become separate input channels. Each application receives its own channel strip with independent EQ, effects, mute, and solo controls. A user can mute game audio while equalizing music playback and keeping voice communication clear, all from a single routing window.
  • Physical Device Input. Microphones, USB audio interfaces, webcam audio inputs, line-in connections, and loopback devices appear as input strips. The software enumerates all devices visible to CoreAudio on macOS or WASAPI on Windows. Any connected device can be routed to any combination of the 16 stereo output buses with a single click.
  • Multi-Bus Output Routing. The mixer provides up to 16 stereo output buses, each driving its own physical device or virtual output. Every bus receives independent EQ, a CLAP effect chain, adjustable delay from 0 to 1000 milliseconds, and a transparent safety limiter with gain-reduction metering. Input channels route to multiple buses simultaneously for parallel output scenarios.
  • Per-Bus Speaker Delay. Each output bus includes a delay control ranging from 0 to 1000 milliseconds. This function synchronizes audio playback between wired speakers and Bluetooth speakers or other delayed output devices. Multi-room audio setups achieve coherent timing without audible echo or phase misalignment between separate speaker pairs.
  • Graphic and Parametric EQ. Every input channel and output bus includes selectable 2-band, 3-band, 11-band, or 31-band equalization. The 31-band mode displays a live real-time analyzer spectrum behind the band controls. A one-click Auto-EQ function measures room acoustics through a connected microphone, generates pink noise, and calculates corrective filter settings.
  • CLAP Plugin Hosting. Each input strip and output bus contains an insert chain for CLAP format plugins. Multiple plugin slots exist per strip, each with its own instance and native GUI or built-in generic parameter editor. Plugin state saves inside mixer presets and restores automatically when loading a configuration.
  • Free Effects Package. The software installs the Airwindows Consolidated pack with approximately 400 free effects through a single click inside the interface. The pack includes EQs, compressors, tape emulations, reverbs, and additional processors created by Chris Johnson. No external plugin installation or management is required to access the collection.
  • PFL and Cue Monitoring. Each channel provides a pre-fader listen function routed to a dedicated cue or headphone output. An operator can audition any input channel without affecting the main mix buses. This function supports live performance monitoring and troubleshooting of individual sources before they enter the primary output path.
  • Safety Limiter. Every output bus includes a transparent safety limiter with visual gain-reduction metering. The limiter prevents signal clipping and protects speakers or recording devices from unexpected level spikes. Operation remains inaudible under normal conditions and engages only when the signal approaches the threshold.
  • Preset Management. Complete routing configurations, EQ settings, plugin chains, delay values, and bus assignments save as presets. The last active preset loads automatically at application startup. Presets allow instant switching between different workflows such as streaming, studio monitoring, or multi-room playback.
  • Float32 Audio Engine. The processing engine operates at 48 kHz sample rate with float32 precision end to end. Buffer sizes range from 128 to 2048 samples. Maximum-quality sample-rate conversion maintains signal integrity when devices operate at different native rates. Automatic stream recovery re-establishes audio when devices disconnect or experience glitches.

The development of MixDesk X originates from Adelvo, with the software serving as the developer's primary audio tool running continuously on both macOS and Windows platforms. The application is written in modern C++ to achieve low-latency performance and direct access to operating system audio APIs including WASAPI, CoreAudio, and ScreenCaptureKit. The project began as an internal solution for system-wide equalization and per-application routing before expanding into a full mixing console with CLAP plugin support.
