DeskVNC — Free Download. Remote Desktop

DeskVNC is a remote access tool that unifies VNC, RDP and SSH connections in one application for Windows, macOS and Linux. It manages hosts as tiles with stored credentials, supports tabs and split panes, transfers files over SFTP, provides an SSH terminal, synchronizes the clipboard and scans the local network for available machines. Secrets are kept in the operating system keychain. An optional MCP interface lets AI agents operate remote computers through standard protocols.

Systems: Windows, Mac OS, Linux

The application is written in Rust with a Tauri shell and includes its own implementations of the VNC, RDP and SSH protocol cores. Sessions are decoded in Rust and rendered through WebGL2. Fullscreen, scaling, pointer, keyboard and quality settings are adjustable during a session. Dropped connections are restored automatically. Builds are available for Windows, macOS and Linux, and the macOS release is signed and notarized.

DeskVNC requires no account, includes no telemetry and has no paid tier restricting features. It is licensed under MIT or Apache 2.0 and developed by psmux with contributors. The source code, release builds and issue tracker are hosted on the project repository. The program is intended for administrators, developers and operators who manage several machines across different protocols from one place.

Use Cases for DeskVNC

Connect via VNC, RDP, and SSH from one window Native Rust cores remove external remote desktop libraries
Store hosts as credential-bearing tiles opened by double click Replace separate clients for servers and network equipment
Run multiple sessions in tabs and split panes Each pane retains independent scaling and input settings
MCP interface lets AI agents observe screens and click Human operator can take over session at any moment
Transfer files bidirectionally over existing SSH connection No separate file server or sharing service required
SSH terminal survives network drops supporting tunnels Open terminal alongside graphical session to same machine
Synchronize clipboard text in both directions per session Adjust clipboard behaviour from toolbar without file transfers
Scan subnet identifying VNC, RDP, SSH listeners mDNS, LLMNR, NetBIOS resolution with banner fingerprinting
Wake on LAN powers sleeping machines before connecting Credentials stored in Keychain, Credential Manager, Secret Service
Headless machines fall back to encrypted credential file Rust decoding painted through WebGL2 avoiding frame copies
H.264 hardware acceleration where webview permits Adjust scaling, display, pointer, quality during live session
Scroll and trackpad gestures match local system direction Keyboard layouts, dead keys, CJK input reach remote intact
Pass system shortcuts through when explicitly required Dropped connections reestablished automatically with reported cause
Preserve session state where protocol permits resumption Lock session to view-only preventing remote input transmission
Capture remote desktop to local image file Fullscreen via F11 or Cmd+Ctrl+F with menu bar handling
