Markbit is a notebook for people who write software and keep notes about it. Documents are composed in Markdown, and each fenced code block can be executed with a single action, with output and errors appearing beside the note. Python, JavaScript, Go, Rust, SQL and many other languages are supported through toolchains already installed on the computer. Tasks, reminders, a calendar, wiki links, version history and password protection are included, and all notes remain as plain files on the local disk.
The program connects to any OpenAI-compatible AI service, including models running entirely on the same machine through Ollama or LM Studio. Suggested edits appear for review and are written to a note only after confirmation. Import paths exist for Obsidian, Notion, Evernote and Joplin, and notes can be exported as Markdown, HTML, Word or PDF, or published as a static site. Interface languages include English, Turkish, German and Spanish, with several color themes.
Markbit does not require an account and does not send telemetry. Notes are stored as individual JSON files written atomically, which keeps them readable and portable. Backups, a trash with scheduled cleanup, and a merge mechanism for external file changes protect the library. The application is developed by Nurullah Turgut and has been available since 2024, with regular releases that expand language support and refine existing features.
