ViboPLR functions as a desktop music player that combines local audio files with remote streaming sources through a plugin system. The application scans folders in the background, builds a searchable SQLite library, and plays tracks using a native mpv engine with gapless output. Users can subscribe to published music collections, sync Subsonic servers, and connect to streaming services through JavaScript plugins. The interface includes a waveform seek bar, tri-state likes, and an auto-continue mode that keeps playback running after the queue ends. Profiles separate libraries, settings, and plugins for different use cases.
The download package includes eight built-in skins, a 10-band equalizer, ReplayGain normalization, and crossfade up to ten seconds. Plugins provide lyrics from LRCLIB and Lyrics.ovh, artwork from TheAudioDB and MusicBrainz, and scrobbling through Last.fm. The gallery adds Spotify, TIDAL Hi-Fi, YouTube via yt-dlp, Genius, and qBittorrent support. Downloads embed tags and cover art automatically, with the source tracked for each track. Context menus support plugin actions on every track surface, and the report a problem tool creates a diagnostic bundle for review.
ViboPLR runs on macOS and Windows with auto-update channels for stable and beta releases. The onboarding wizard sets up usage profiles, skins, sources, and recommended plugins during first run. Managed dependencies handle ffmpeg and yt-dlp installation and updates. Custom skins can be imported as JSON files or installed from the community gallery, with 19 color tokens and optional sanitized CSS overrides. The history view tracks all time, last 30 days, recent, and artist-specific listening data with keyboard navigation.
