VidShrink is a desktop application for reducing video files to a chosen size in megabytes. It calculates codec, resolution, frame rate and quality settings automatically, displays the predicted result before processing, and reports quality through VMAF-NEG scoring. The package also contains a player, a screen recorder, a timeline editor and a format converter.
The software targets situations where a video must fit under a fixed limit, such as an email attachment or a messaging service. Preset buttons cover common ceilings, while a slider handles other values. Encoder probing selects working hardware or software encoders on the current machine, and batch processing handles folders of files.
VidShrink is developed by Mustafa Özel and written in Python. It has been maintained since the early 2020s. Installation of ffmpeg is required for video recognition and processing. Share destinations and their size limits are stored in a separate configuration file, and the full feature documentation is available in the project's documentation folder.
