Art Sorter

Art Sorter — Free Download. AI image sorting

Art Sorter is a Windows desktop application that organizes large image collections by character and scene rather than by file name. It arranges thousands of illustrations, fan art, anime images and AI-generated pictures into a single ordered line, groups identical characters together even when they come from different artists, isolates exact duplicates and resized copies in a separate folder, renames entire groups at once, moves any number of files into folders in one step, and inserts newly added images next to similar ones without rebuilding the sequence. Every step is reversible, and all recognition happens on the local machine.

  • Character and scene grouping. The core function of the program. Art Sorter analyzes the visual content of each image and determines which character is depicted and which scene type it belongs to. Images sharing the same character are placed in one group regardless of the artist, file name or source folder. Scene recognition separates different contexts, so a character shown in different settings is not merged into one undifferentiated block. This grouping forms the base for the ordered line produced after each sorting run.
  • Sequential line arrangement. After grouping, images are placed in a single ordered line rather than scattered across folders. The order is determined by the recognized character and scene data. The user can then drag images or groups to adjust positions. The line is preserved between sessions, so the arrangement is not lost when the program is closed and reopened.
  • Duplicate detection. The program finds identical copies and also detects resized versions of the same image. All matches are collected in a separate folder instead of being deleted. The user can compare them side by side and decide which to keep. The original files remain untouched unless the user removes them manually.
  • Incremental insertion of new images. Newly added pictures are placed next to the images they resemble. The existing order remains as the user left it, so a large collection does not have to be sorted again from the beginning after every addition. This applies to single files and to whole folders dropped into the program.
  • Batch renaming. Any number of selected images can be renamed at the same time. The user selects a group, enters a name once, and the program applies it to the whole selection and suggests names for the remaining images based on the grouping. This replaces manual renaming of individual files.
  • Batch moving. Any number of images can be moved into a folder in one operation. Combined with renaming, this supports building a structured library from loose files with random names.
  • Pinning. Images marked as pinned keep their names and their position in the line. They are excluded from the sorting process. This protects files whose placement or naming must not change during later runs.
  • Copy and move modes. The program works in two modes. In copy mode the source files are left completely untouched and only copies are arranged. In move mode files are transferred into the organized folders, and the operation can be reversed with one click to return files to their original folders.
  • Archive handling. Folders, zip, 7z and rar files can be dropped onto the window. Archives contained in the dropped folder are extracted automatically, so packed collections do not need to be unpacked by hand before sorting.
  • Tag export. Names and tags can be exported to Hydrus sidecars, XMP for digiKam and XnView MP, Eagle, or CSV. The original image files are not modified during export. This connects the sorting result to external catalog and tagging tools.
  • Undo for every step. Each operation can be reversed. Moved files return to their original folders in one click. Accidental renames, moves and sorting decisions can be rolled back without manual repair.
  • Large collection processing. Tens of thousands of images can be processed in a single run. The process supports pause and resume, and includes sleep protection so the machine does not suspend in the middle of a long sorting job. A notification is shown when the run finishes.
  • Local-only recognition. All image analysis runs on the user's computer. Images, file names and folder names are not sent anywhere. There is no account and no sign-in. The only network activity consists of update checks, a one-time download of the image analysis models on first run, and license verification using an anonymous PC code.
  • Multilingual interface. The program interface is available in 18 languages, covering a range of regions and writing systems.
  • Trial and licensing. The first 300 images are processed free of charge and without a bank card. After that a one-time purchase unlocks the program permanently. There is no subscription. The license is valid for one computer, all updates are included, and a refund within 14 days is available while the key has not been activated.

Art Sorter was created by Ori Labs Studio, the development team behind the program. The project was built for collectors of illustrations, fan art, anime images and output from generative systems such as Stable Diffusion, NovelAI, Midjourney and ComfyUI, where file names are random and manual tagging is impractical. The program has been developed and distributed by the studio as a commercial desktop product for Windows 10 and 11 in 64-bit versions, released under a one-time purchase model with a free trial of 300 images. Development continues with updates included in the license. The application is written in C++ and built as a native Windows desktop program.
