  • Library Management. The core library system stores all imported comics with their covers, titles, and reading status. It provides search functionality to locate titles quickly, supports favorites marking for prioritized access, and maintains saved reading progress for each comic. On Android, alphanumeric ordering organizes the collection automatically. The library view preserves its scroll position when using the Show more option, ensuring navigation remains stable during browsing sessions.
  • Collections. Collections group related comics into custom categories for structured organization. Users create multiple collections and assign any number of comics to each one. On Android, multi-comic selection accelerates the process of adding several titles to a collection simultaneously. This function separates different series, genres, or reading lists without duplicating files or altering the original folder structure on the device.
  • Reader with Zoom. The reading interface displays comic pages with adjustable zoom levels. Users pinch or use controls to magnify details and inspect artwork closely. Preferences allow zoom persistence, meaning the chosen magnification remains active when moving between pages. An automatic fit option scales pages to match the screen dimensions, removing the need for manual adjustment on every page turn.
  • Bookmarks. Bookmarks mark specific pages within any comic for later reference. A saved bookmark stores the exact position and remains associated with the title until removed. This function supports returning to important scenes, reference material, or interrupted reading points without searching through the entire document again.
  • Double-Page Mode. Double-page mode presents two comic pages side by side, replicating the layout of a physical book. This function suits wide screens and tablets where horizontal space accommodates both pages simultaneously. Page pairing follows the natural reading sequence, and the mode integrates with zoom and manga reading direction settings.
  • Manga Mode. Manga mode reverses the reading direction to right-to-left, matching the traditional ordering of Japanese manga. Pages advance from right to left, and the interface adjusts navigation controls accordingly. This function removes the need to manually reverse page order or use external tools for correctly oriented manga files.
  • Vertical Reading. Vertical reading enables continuous scrolling through comic pages instead of discrete page turns. This function benefits webtoons, long-strip comics, and any content designed for uninterrupted vertical flow. Scrolling remains smooth across page boundaries, and the reading position is preserved when switching between vertical and page-based modes.
  • Watched Folders. Watched folders register directories on the device and detect newly added comics within them. Registration persists across sessions, and a manual refresh option triggers immediate scanning. Each folder can be enabled or disabled, hiding its comics from the library without deleting reading progress. Automatic detection occurs while the app is in use or when returning to the library; permanent monitoring does not run while the app is closed.
  • Import Handling. The import system processes comic files and folders while silently ignoring duplicates. At the end of each import, a summary reports the results. Removed files become unavailable in the library without losing their reading data, and moves or renames are handled when the system can identify them. These behaviors protect accumulated progress during file management operations.
  • Guided Reading. Experimental guided reading detects individual panels on a page and allows step-by-step navigation through them. The arrow keys advance between detected panels, and on Windows the L key toggles the feature. A manual panel editor permits correction of detection results. When detection fails to recognize page divisions, approximate overlapping segments labeled Segment are used instead. Pages with diagonal panels, overlapping layouts, or colored borders may not be recognized correctly.
  • Format Support. Komicove reads CBZ and ZIP archives on all platforms. PDF files are supported on Windows, Linux, and Android. CBR and RAR files work natively on Android, while desktop versions require 7-Zip or a compatible tool. 7Z, CB7, TAR, and CBT archives need 7-Zip installed separately on desktop but are handled natively on Android. Image-based EPUB files receive experimental support. Compressed archives must contain image pages, including images inside folders. Android includes RAR5 support. Password-protected files are not supported.
  • Account and Profile. Account and profile screens manage user identity and preferences within the application. The revised interface presents account options and reader settings in a consistent layout. Profile data remains accessible across updates, and existing accounts from earlier versions continue to function without interruption.
  • Android Reader Controls. Collapsible reader controls on Android free up screen space for the page itself. The controls hide when not needed and reappear on demand. Additional Android improvements cover loading compressed files, caching behavior, memory usage, and reuse of the comic preparation step when rotating the device, reducing delays during orientation changes.

Komicove was created by developer Luan.nxyl under the original name PANEL. The project began as an open-source comic and manga reader and has been actively developed since its initial release. The name change to Komicove took effect with version 0.1.0. The developer chose the name PANEL without knowing that another comic reader with a very similar name already existed. After discovering the similarity and as the project grew, the decision was made to adopt a more distinct identity and avoid possible confusion in the future.
