  • Transparent watermark indicator. Displays Caps Lock or Num Lock status as a semi-transparent overlay on the desktop. The watermark remains visible above most windows, so the current key state is always in view during typing. Its opacity can be lowered to avoid distraction while preserving readability.
  • Auto-repositioning indicator. The floating status window can move automatically toward the active area of the screen. When a user switches between monitors, windows, or text fields, the indicator shifts to remain near the current input zone. This reduces the need to look at the keyboard or system tray.
  • Tray icon status. Places small Caps Lock and Num Lock state icons in the system notification area. The tray icons provide a non-intrusive way to check key status without opening any window. Icons change immediately when the corresponding lock key is pressed.
  • Customizable audio alerts. Plays a sound when Caps Lock or Num Lock is turned on or off. Different sounds can be assigned to activation and deactivation. The volume level and sound file can be selected from the settings panel, supporting standard audio formats.
  • Per-key visual settings. Allows separate configuration for Caps Lock and Num Lock indicators. Font size, text color, background color, and font family can be adjusted independently. This separation helps users distinguish the two lock keys at a glance.
  • Text or icon display mode. The watermark can show either a short text label, such as CAPS or NUM, or a compact icon. The text mode is suited for fast reading, while the icon mode reduces visual noise. Switching between modes does not affect other indicator preferences.
  • Transparency control. Sets the opacity level of the floating indicator from nearly invisible to fully opaque. Lower transparency keeps the indicator subtle during writing or coding, while higher transparency improves visibility in bright environments.
  • Position memory and manual placement. The indicator can be dragged to any screen position and will remember its location after restart. Manual placement is available when automatic repositioning is disabled. Multiple monitor setups are supported.
  • Startup integration. 7Caps can be configured to launch automatically when Windows starts. This ensures continuous key status monitoring without manual activation. The startup option can be enabled or disabled from the application settings.
  • Low resource usage. The program runs with minimal CPU and RAM consumption in the background. It does not create unnecessary processes or network activity. This keeps system performance stable on older and newer hardware alike.
  • Lifetime license model. A one-time payment grants permanent use on a single computer. There are no monthly fees, feature restrictions, or forced upgrades. Future minor updates remain available without additional cost.
  • Windows compatibility. Works on modern Windows operating systems, including Windows 10 and Windows 11. The installation does not require additional runtime libraries. The interface adapts to standard screen scaling settings.

7Caps was created by Digola, an independent software company focused on small Windows utilities. The first version appeared in the early 2010s as a simple Caps Lock status notifier. Development continued over several years, with regular updates adding Num Lock support, tray indicators, and visual customization. Version 10.0 introduced the watermark indicator with automatic repositioning. The application is written in C++ for direct access to Windows input and display functions. The compact codebase contributes to fast startup and low memory footprint.
