ProfiCAD

ProfiCAD — Free Download. Electrical diagram software

ProfiCAD is a software application for creating electrical and electronic diagrams, schematics, and control circuit diagrams. It supports pneumatics, hydraulics, and other technical drawing types. The program includes over two thousand symbols, automatic generation of bills of materials, wire lists, terminal lists, and cable lists. An ISO 7200 title block is provided and can be adapted with company logos or custom designs. Cross-references between wires and symbols belonging to one component are supported. The page scale allows entry of actual dimensions for floor plans and mechanical drawings.

  • Automatic Bill of Materials. ProfiCAD generates a complete bill of materials from the drawn schematic. Every symbol placed on a page carries configurable data fields such as part number, manufacturer, and description. The report compiles all components and their quantities into a structured table. This table can be exported or printed for procurement and assembly. The function removes the need to manually inventory parts after the design is complete.
  • Wire List Generation. The program creates a list of all wires used in a project. Each connection between two terminals is tracked with its unique wire number. The report shows the origin point, destination point, wire gauge, color, and any custom label. This list supports panel builders and maintenance staff during installation and troubleshooting. Cross-references on the diagram allow direct navigation between connected points on different pages.
  • Terminal List Output. A dedicated terminal report compiles every terminal block and individual terminal in the schematic. For each terminal, the list shows the connected wire number, the device or cable side, and the physical location designation. This function is critical for control panel wiring because it provides a clear map of field connections. Sorting and filtering options help organize large projects with hundreds of terminals.
  • Symbol Editor. ProfiCAD includes a built-in editor for creating custom symbols. Users can draw new graphic elements using lines, rectangles, arcs, and text. Electrical connection points can be assigned to any location on the symbol. Custom symbols are saved into user libraries and appear in the main symbol palette for reuse. This function allows the standard library of over two thousand symbols to be extended for specific manufacturers or internal standards.
  • Cross-Reference Navigation. The software supports bidirectional cross-references between symbols that belong to one component. For example, a relay coil on page one and its contacts on page five are linked automatically. A click on the reference text next to a contact opens the page with the associated coil. This navigation works across multiple pages and speeds up verification of complex control circuits. The function also applies to wire continuity across page breaks.
  • Floor Plan Drawing with Scale. The page scale function allows users to define a ratio between drawing units and real-world dimensions. Dimensions can be placed on walls, cable trays, and equipment locations. This makes ProfiCAD suitable for simple floor plans, panel layouts, and mechanical arrangements. The actual size of objects is preserved when the drawing is printed at the correct scale. Dimensioning tools display accurate measurements without manual calculation.
  • Cable Drawing and Listing. The program supports drawing multi-core cable symbols with individual core connections. Each cable can have a type, length, and number of cores defined. The cable list report shows every cable, its cores, connected devices, and cable properties. This function is important for projects that involve field wiring between cabinets. Core colors and numbers are displayed on the schematic for clarity.
  • Automatic Symbol Numbering. ProfiCAD assigns unique identifiers to symbols automatically as they are placed. Numbering rules can be configured based on symbol type, page, or functional group. Duplicate numbering is prevented across the project. The function reduces manual errors in complex diagrams where hundreds of devices require unique designations. Users can override automatic numbers when a specific naming convention is required.
  • Striped Wire Drawing. The software can display wires with striped color patterns. A wire can be defined as green with a yellow stripe or any other combination. This visual representation matches physical wire insulation used in industrial installations. The wire list also stores the color code for each wire. This function aids electricians who must identify wires during installation and repair.
  • PNG, BMP, EMF, and DXF Export. Completed drawings can be exported to several file formats. PNG and BMP are raster formats suitable for documentation and presentations. EMF is a vector format for Microsoft Office applications. DXF export allows exchange with other CAD programs. The Clipboard copy function transfers selected drawing parts directly into third-party software. These export options ensure that diagrams can be shared with clients and contractors who use different tools.
  • ISO 7200 Title Block. The default title block follows the ISO 7200 standard for technical product documentation. Fields include project name, drawing number, revision, date, and author. The title block can be edited to include a company logo and additional rows. A separate editor allows creation of fully custom title blocks from scratch. This function supports compliance with internal documentation standards and customer requirements.
  • Layer Management. ProfiCAD supports working with multiple layers on each page. Layers can be shown, hidden, locked, or assigned specific colors. Different parts of a drawing, such as power circuits and control circuits, can be placed on separate layers. This function simplifies editing large diagrams because unrelated elements can be visually isolated. Layer settings are saved with the project file.
  • Symbol Search and Insertion. The symbol palette includes a search field with instant results. Typing a partial name such as "contactor" filters the library to matching symbols immediately. Symbols can be inserted into a circuit and automatically break the wire at the insertion point. The program reconnects wire ends to the new symbol terminals without manual adjustment. This function significantly reduces the time required to modify existing circuits.
  • Netlist and Connectivity Check. The internal data model tracks electrical connectivity between all symbols. A netlist can be generated to verify that all connections are complete and that no unintended open points exist. The program flags unconnected symbol terminals. This function helps identify drafting errors before the diagram is released for production. Connectivity data also drives the wire, terminal, and cable reports.
  • Page and Project Navigation. Projects can contain multiple pages organized in a hierarchical tree. Page names and numbers are configurable. Cross-references between pages are clickable and open the target page immediately. The page navigator shows thumbnails or a list of all pages in the project. This function is necessary for large projects that span dozens of sheets.

ProfiCAD has been developed and maintained by a single software engineer since 1997. The first public version was released as freeware for the DOS platform. The application was later rewritten for Microsoft Windows using the C++ programming language. The developer continues to release updates and provides direct technical support to users. The long development history has resulted in a stable codebase with a consistent feature set focused on electrical documentation.
