The core mechanism involves a Work Watchdog component that monitors developer process telemetry in real time. It identifies active work by tracking CPU utilization of known processes. When activity falls below configurable thresholds for a set duration, the program initiates a clean suspend or shutdown sequence. A separate Charger Guard module provides blackout protection.   • Intelligent Work Watchdog. This is the primary monitoring engine. It tracks the CPU usage of a user-defined set of processes. The program includes pre-configured profiles for AI agents and active builds, AI coding agents only, all development tools, or a specific process name entered manually. The watchdog uses this telemetry to determine if work is actively progressing.
  • Configurable Idle Thresholds. The program provides selectable CPU idle cutoff points: 1.5%, 2.5%, 3.5% (default), 5.0%, 8.0%, and 10.0%. This setting defines what level of CPU activity is considered idle for a tracked process. It accommodates both lightweight scripts and heavy compilations.
  • Inactivity Buffer Timer. A configurable delay is applied before the system acts on an idle state. Options include 1, 2, 3 (recommended), 5, or 10 minutes. This buffer accounts for latency in LLM API responses or other temporary pauses in work, preventing premature sleep or shutdown commands.
  • Stuck Process Detection. The telemetry engine identifies deadlocked or runaway processes that consume excessive CPU resources. These processes are highlighted with a vivid red alert background and dark bold red text, and are moved to the top of the monitoring grid for immediate visibility.
  • Auto-Kill on Sleep Engine. This toggleable feature automatically terminates any process flagged as stuck or runaway immediately before the system enters sleep or shutdown. This action prevents hardware overheating and battery depletion from hung tasks during unattended periods.
  • Live Per-Process Telemetry Grid. A real-time, double-buffered list view displays critical data for each monitored process. Columns include Process Name, PID, Normalized CPU Percentage, RAM Memory usage in megabytes, Activity Badges, and Tracking State. The grid updates without flicker and scales responsively with the window size.
  • Contextual Process Controls. Within the telemetry grid, the operator can instantly ignore non-critical processes or terminate pegged tasks with a single click. This provides direct control over the monitored process list without editing configuration files.
  • Gradient Activity Meter. A custom 22-pixel anti-aliased meter replaces standard progress bars. It uses distinct gradients to communicate state: Emerald-to-Teal for active work, Amber-to-Red for stuck tasks, and Royal Blue-to-Indigo for the idle countdown buffer progression.
  • Instant Charger Guard. This module monitors the alternating current power adapter connection. Upon detecting a sudden unplug event, it triggers an S3 Deep Sleep state within milliseconds. This action preserves the active RAM state, freezing in-progress AI agent tasks and unsaved code before network timeouts or response corruption can occur.
  • Anti-Theft and Battery Preservation. The Charger Guard module also functions as a security measure. If a charging cable is disconnected in a public setting, the immediate lock or sleep action secures the session and conserves battery power. This feature protects both data and hardware.
  • Process-Specific Targeting. Beyond the pre-configured profiles, the program accepts any custom process name, script, or executable as a target for monitoring. This allows the watchdog to track proprietary or uncommon development tools not included in the default lists.
  • Offline and Lightweight Operation. The program is a single standalone executable approximately 90 kilobytes in size. It operates with zero dependencies, zero installers, and no background bloat. Memory usage remains under 15 megabytes with 0.0% CPU consumption when idle, and it performs no network telemetry.

The development of PowerLockGuard originated from the operational needs of GMK Solution, a technical SEO and web development agency founded by GM Kamrussama in October 2025 in Kushtia, Bangladesh. The agency's internal development team frequently executed long-duration autonomous AI agent tasks and software builds. These tasks required continuous monitoring to ensure completion and clean system shutdown. The absence of a dedicated utility for this purpose led to wasted computational resources and occasional data loss from unexpected power events. The program was created to address these specific gaps. It is written in the C# programming language, targeting the .NET framework to achieve a compact executable size and direct access to Windows system APIs for process telemetry and power state management.
