Local audio separation. HaramLite processes video and audio files on the user's own computer. The separation model identifies and removes background music and instrumental components while preserving dialogue, vocals, and other foreground audio elements. No file is transmitted to a remote server during processing.
GPU acceleration. When compatible hardware is present, HaramLite uses the graphics processing unit to speed up the audio separation task. This reduces processing time for large video files compared to running the same model only on the central processing unit.
Chrome and Edge extension. A companion browser extension integrates with the desktop application. It enables playback of YouTube videos with the music removed directly in the browser. The extension communicates with the local application through a messaging host.
Telegram bot integration. The application can run a Telegram bot that accepts links sent from a phone or another device. The bot forwards the link to the local HaramLite instance, which downloads and processes the media, then returns the result to the user through the Telegram chat.
No telemetry or analytics. HaramLite does not collect usage data, crash reports, or behavioral analytics. No information about processed files, session duration, or feature usage is transmitted to the developers or third parties.
Optional network access. Internet connectivity is not required for core functionality. When enabled, network access is used only to download a user-specified link, to update yt-dlp, to check for application updates, and to operate the Telegram bot. Each of these functions can be disabled.
Start with Windows. After installation, the application offers an option to launch with Windows in the background without opening a visible window. This keeps the Telegram bot and browser integration available after a restart. The setting can be changed at any time, and the main window opens from the tray icon.
Extension origin detection. The messaging host records the origin of every browser extension that contacts the desktop application. When no browser extension has ever called the host, the settings panel displays a link to the extension installation page instead of leaving the user without guidance.
Per-request mode selection. Within the browser extension popup, the user can choose between Clip mode and Song mode for each individual request. The desktop application applies the selected mode to that specific link rather than following a global default setting.
Batch processing with cancellation. HaramLite supports processing multiple files in a batch. A running batch can be cancelled, and the cancellation behaves predictably, stopping the queue without leaving partial outputs or locking the application.
Scrollable settings menu. The settings menu scrolls when its entries exceed the available screen height, preventing options from becoming inaccessible on short displays. The About entry is placed in the last position within the menu.
Link downloading via yt-dlp. When a user provides a URL, HaramLite uses yt-dlp to download the media before processing. The yt-dlp component can be updated automatically or left at a fixed version, depending on user preference.

HaramLite was created by an independent developer and first released in 2024. The program is written in Python, with a desktop interface built for Windows. Development began as a local alternative to cloud-based audio separation services, with the explicit goal of keeping media files on the user's own hardware. The Chrome and Edge extension and the Telegram bot were added in subsequent updates, followed by GPU acceleration support and per-request mode selection.
