AccdbMerge

AccdbMerge — Free Download. Access Diff tool

AccdbMerge is a software application for comparing and merging Microsoft Access database files in .mdb and .accdb formats. The program handles schema objects such as tables, queries, forms, reports, macros, and modules, alongside table data. It supports batch comparison across multiple tables, custom field mappings, data slices, export to Xlsx and Json, diff profiles, a find tool, and protected files. A command line interface is available for data-only automation.

  • Schema and programming object comparison. The core function detects differences in table structures including field names, data types, properties, indexes, data macros, and linked tables. It also compares relations, queries, forms, reports, macros, modules, database properties, import/export specs, references, and ribbons between two Access files.
  • Table and view data comparison. This feature performs row-level differencing for tables and views. It identifies new records, deleted records, and changed records by comparing key fields. The result shows which rows exist only in the first file, only in the second file, or have different values in matching rows.
  • Custom query result comparison. The program can compare the output of any custom query defined by the user. This goes beyond physical table structures by letting you specify a SQL query in each database and then diff the returned result sets. Useful when the underlying table schemas differ but the logical data should match.
  • Custom table and column mappings. This function maps tables and columns with different names between two database files. For example, a table named Customers in one file can be mapped to Clients in another file. Column mappings allow the comparison of fields that store the same information under different names.
  • Batch data diff. Batch data diff processes multiple tables, views, custom mappings, and custom queries in one operation. Instead of comparing one table at a time, the user selects a set of objects and runs a single diff session. This produces a consolidated report of all differences across the selected objects.
  • Data slices. A data slice is a customized subset of a batch data diff. It allows the user to define filters, selected columns, and row conditions for specific tables within the batch. This is for scenarios where only a portion of a large table needs to be compared, reducing processing time and focusing the result set.
  • Export to Xlsx and Json. Comparison results can be exported to Xlsx spreadsheet format or Json text format. The Xlsx export is suitable for reviewing differences in Excel with filtering and sorting. The Json export is useful for programmatic processing, logging, or integration with other tools that consume structured data.
  • Diff profiles. A diff profile saves the complete configuration of a comparison session, including selected objects, mappings, filters, and options. The user can save a profile and load it later to repeat the same comparison without reconfiguring settings. Profiles are useful for recurring database synchronization tasks.
  • Protected files support. AccdbMerge can open password-protected Access database files. The user enters the password for each file, and the program can store the credentials within a saved project for future sessions. This applies to both standard database passwords and user-level security when applicable.
  • Find tool. The find tool searches within the difference results for specific text or values. After a diff operation, the user can locate a particular table name, field name, or data value in the result set. This is useful when working with large comparison outputs containing many differences.
  • Index and relationship merging. From the table structure differencing window, the user can compare and merge indexes or relationships separately. The tool shows differences in primary keys, unique indexes, foreign keys, and table relationships, with options to apply changes from one database to the other.
  • Command line interface. The CLI supports data-only automation for comparing and synchronizing Access files without opening the GUI. It accepts arguments for file paths, mappings, and output options. The CLI is suitable for scheduled tasks, build pipelines, and server environments where manual interaction is not available.

AccdbMerge was created by KsDBMerge Tools, an independent software development group focused on database comparison utilities. The program was first released in 2009, targeting Microsoft Access users who needed a reliable diff and merge solution for .mdb files. With the introduction of the .accdb format in Access 2007, the tool was extended to support both formats. The application is written in C++ for the core diff engine and GUI, with additional components built using the .NET Framework for Windows integration.
