Kindle Comic Converter — Free Download. KCC comic converter

Kindle Comic Converter is a Python application that transforms comic and manga files or folders into EPUB, Panel View MOBI, or E-Ink optimized CBZ formats. It processes PNG, JPG, GIF, CBZ, CBR, and CB7 source files. The tool applies image transformations to prepare content for electronic paper displays, handles right-to-left manga reading, splits double-page spreads, and removes unnecessary margins to maximize screen space on devices like Kindle and Kobo.

  • EPUB 3.0 output. The application generates valid EPUB 3.0 files since version 4.6. This means the final e-books work across a range of e-reader hardware beyond Amazon devices. Fixed layout properties are embedded to preserve the intended comic page structure. The output includes proper spine ordering and page dimensions matched to the selected device profile.
  • MOBI with Panel View. KCC creates MOBI files that include virtual panel view support for compatible Kindle models. The feature analyzes page content and provides a guided reading experience on smaller screens. The MOBI file is a dual format container that functions as both MOBI and AZW3 without changing the extension.
  • CBZ optimization. For devices running KOReader or Kindle DX, the program produces CBZ archives with images resized and compressed for E-Ink panels. The output strips color profiles not needed on grayscale screens. Page order follows the reading direction selected by the user, right-to-left or left-to-right.
  • Double-page spread splitting. Scanned comics often contain two-page spreads in a single image. The tool detects these wide pages and splits them into individual left and right pages. A configurable threshold controls when splitting occurs. Split pages are arranged according to manga or western reading order.
  • Margin cropping. KCC scans each page for uniform white or black borders around the artwork. The cropping algorithm removes empty space while preserving a small safety margin. This operation increases the visible artwork area on devices with limited screen dimensions.
  • Image resizing. Each image is resized to match the exact screen resolution of the target device profile. The program includes profiles for Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Oasis, Kindle Scribe, Kobo Libra, Kobo Clara, and several other models. Resizing reduces file size and eliminates the need for the reader to zoom or pan.
  • Color mode adjustment. The application can convert color pages to grayscale or maintain original colors depending on the target device capabilities. Dithering options are available to preserve gradients and shading on 16-level grayscale E-Ink screens. Color profiles are stripped for E-Ink outputs to reduce file size.
  • Gamma and contrast correction. For scanned manga and older comics with faded blacks or washed-out grays, the tool applies gamma adjustment and contrast enhancement. These corrections make linework more distinct on E-Ink displays. Users can fine-tune the intensity of these adjustments.
  • Metadata rebuilding. KCC extracts information from source filenames and embedded comic metadata. Series name, volume number, issue number, writer, penciller, and inker fields are mapped into the final e-book metadata. The program constructs proper titles such as Series Name Vol. 3 instead of raw filenames.
  • Custom profile support. Beyond built-in device profiles, the converter allows creation of custom output dimensions. Users specify target width, height, and color depth. This feature supports less common e-readers and future devices without waiting for profile updates.
  • Batch processing. Multiple comic files and entire folders can be queued for conversion in a single operation. Each file is processed sequentially with the selected settings. The batch mode saves time when preparing a large collection for a new e-reader.
  • KEPUB output for Kobo. Selecting a Kobo device profile with EPUB output automatically produces KEPUB files. This format enables features specific to Kobo readers, including reading statistics and faster page turns. The KEPUB file can be dropped directly into the Kobo documents folder.
  • PDF output. The program supports PDF generation for devices like reMarkable and Kindle Scribe 2025. This format preserves page layout at a fixed size. PDF output serves as an alternative when MOBI or EPUB formatting causes display issues.
  • Manual override controls. For comics with unusual page structures, KCC offers manual settings for cropping borders, scaling images, and adjusting compression levels. These controls override automatic detection. Users can force splitting behavior or disable it entirely for specific files.

The development of Kindle Comic Converter began in 2013. The original author is Ciro Mattia Gonano, known on GitHub as ciromattia. The project started as a personal tool for reading manga on a Kindle Keyboard. Early versions were command-line only and required manual image preparation. The codebase is written in Python. Over the years, additional contributors joined the project through GitHub. The application evolved from a simple image packager into a full converter with a graphical interface built with PyQt. Device profiles were added as new e-reader models appeared on the market. Version 4.6 introduced EPUB 3.0 output, expanding the user base beyond Kindle owners.
