MirrorFolder is an automatic folder mirroring and synchronization software for Windows desktop, laptop, and server computers. It enables users to configure one or more mirror paths for important folders, or an entire drive, to another local, removable, or network shared drive. File synchronization and real-time mirroring run silently in the background. Older versions of mirror files can be archived inside a series of zip files in a third location periodically.
Real-time folder mirroring. MirrorFolder continuously monitors source folders and copies changes to destination folders as they occur. This mode is suitable for RAID-1 type drive mirroring and for keeping critical data identical across two or more storage locations without waiting for a scheduled interval.
Automatic synchronization scheduler. The built-in scheduler triggers synchronization and archiving tasks at specified time intervals or at specific times of the day. Tasks can also start on system startup, shutdown, login, log-off, screen lock, screen unlock, or when a removable or network drive is connected.
Bi-directional synchronization. Changes made in either the source or the mirror folder are propagated to the other side. File delete operations can be replicated as well, which supports keeping a laptop and a desktop computer or a home and an office computer in a consistent state through a USB flash drive.
Multiple mirror and archive destinations. A single folder or drive can be synchronized and archived to several destinations, each with different options. This helps maintain local, removable, and network copies of the same data with independent retention rules and schedules.
Version archiving. Older and deleted versions of files from the mirror folder are stored in a series of archive files in 7z or zip format in a third location. This provides a historical record of changes and allows restoration of previous file states when required.
Restore and comparison utilities. A restore utility finds and restores files from multiple mirror folders and archive files to a source folder at a chosen point in time. A separate comparison utility checks binary content of files in two folders on any storage locations to identify differences.
Shadow Copy support. MirrorFolder can use Windows Volume Shadow Copy Service APIs to create a snapshot of a local fixed drive. This allows copying of opened and locked files during synchronization without interrupting running applications or the operating system.
NTFS Change Journal support. For drives or folders containing very large numbers of files, NTFS Change Journals data can be used to determine which files have changed. This reduces the time required for synchronization by avoiding a full scan of the file system.
File attribute and metadata copying. The program supports copying of NTFS alternate named streams, file permissions, sparse files, encrypted files, reparse points, symbolic links, and hard links. This preserves file system metadata and special file characteristics on the destination.
Cloud and remote storage support. The Cloud edition supports FTP, SFTP, and WebDAV as storage locations, as well as ADrive, Amazon S3, Backblaze B2, Dropbox, Google Drive, Google Cloud Storage, and OneDrive personal and business cloud storages. Transparent encryption and decryption of mirror files can be applied during transfer.
Bandwidth and priority control. Options are available to limit disk and network bandwidth usage and to set task priority during background synchronization. This prevents mirroring tasks from consuming excessive resources on production systems.
Email notifications and logging. MirrorFolder records automatic and real-time synchronization, archiving, warnings, errors, and remote access in logs. Email notifications can be sent on error, warning, and successful synchronization or archive operations.
Headless and remote operation. The Enterprise edition supports headless installation without the user interface application, performs all operations from a remote computer, and provides command line options for basic settings and synchronization operations.
External command execution. An external command can be executed before and after synchronization or archiving. This allows integration with scripts, backup rotation procedures, or other system management tasks.
Android device synchronization. File synchronization from and to Android phones and tablets through a USB port using the MTP protocol is supported. This covers synchronization, restore, and comparison operations for mobile device storage.
MirrorFolder is developed by Techsoft. The product is distributed as version 6.1.528, dated September 14, 2026, with a size of 28 MB. Supported systems include Windows 11, 10, 8.x, and 7 SP1, as well as Windows Server 2025, 2022, 2019, and 2016. The program is written in C++ and operates as a Windows service in the background. Version 6.0 introduced ZIP and 7Z archiving, rotating mirrors, hard link snapshot history, external command execution, transparent encryption in the Cloud edition, wake-up from sleep or hibernation, FTP, SFTP, and WebDAV support, and cloud storage integration. Version 6.0 also removed real-time file mirroring for booting from the mirror drive and Windows Explorer integration. Version 6.1 added Android MTP synchronization, Google Cloud Storage, and minor improvements and fixes. The software is available in Standard, Cloud, and Enterprise editions, with a 30-day trial version for download.
