  • Direct Day Writing. This function is the core of the program. A day cell accepts typed text immediately after a click, without an event form, dialog, or scheduling wizard. Pressing Enter inserts a new line inside the same day, so a single date can hold a list, a sequence of tasks, or several separate notes. Text remains visible on the month grid, which keeps context available while planning.
  • Fit Month View. Fit Month keeps every day of the current month inside the window. The layout compresses day cells so the full grid stays readable, which suits planning at a glance and checking how obligations are distributed. When a day contains more text than the cell can show, the entry remains stored and can be opened for more room.
  • Expanded Calendar View. Expanded layout increases the space given to each day so longer entries appear in full. This mode suits months with heavy writing, project notes, or many small tasks per date. Switching between Fit Month and Expanded changes only the presentation, and the underlying entries remain unchanged.
  • Drag Entries Between Days. Entries can be moved from one date to another by dragging. This supports rescheduling without retyping, and it keeps the month organized when plans shift. Reordering within a day is also available, so priority can follow the order of lines rather than a separate ranking system.
  • Checkbox Completion. Any entry can be marked as completed. Checked items remain part of the month record while showing that the task is done, which separates finished work from open items without deleting history. Printing and PDF export can optionally include or exclude completed entries.
  • Highlighting. Entries can be highlighted to draw attention to important dates, deadlines, or notes that must remain visible. Highlighting works on the month grid, so priority is visible during normal planning rather than hidden inside a detail panel.
  • Search Across Months and Years. Search scans everything written in the calendar, including entries from earlier months and previous years. Results are found locally, and calendar content is not transmitted to an external service for indexing. This supports locating an old note, appointment, or task without browsing month by month.
  • Local Calendar Storage. Calendar entries are stored on the computer during normal use. No account is required, and OpenMonth does not send calendar content to a cloud service. This design keeps the month available offline and places control of the data with the person using the program.
  • Manual Backups. Portable backup files can be created on demand. A backup captures the calendar state so it can be kept on another drive, copied to external media, or stored separately from the working installation. This provides a straightforward way to preserve months of entries.

  • Light, Dark, and System Themes. The appearance can follow the system setting or be fixed to Light or Dark. Light Mode uses a warm paper-inspired palette, while Dark Mode reduces brightness for low-light use. Theme choice affects presentation only and does not change calendar data.
