OwnMemory

OwnMemory — Free Download. RAM process control

OwnMemory is a local Windows application that gives you direct control over which background processes are allowed to remain active in system memory. It functions as a gatekeeper for RAM, terminating unwanted applications once or continuously. The software operates entirely offline, changes nothing on disk drives, and supports saved profiles for different work scenarios such as coding, office tasks, or gaming. It runs on Windows 10 and Windows 11 with a 14-day trial and a one-time license.

  • Persistent process blocking. OwnMemory scans active RAM processes and terminates selected background applications automatically. If a terminated process attempts to restart, the software prevents it from remaining resident. This blocking continues until the user explicitly removes the rule from the current profile.
  • One-time process termination. The application can terminate an unwanted process immediately without creating a permanent block rule. This function is designed for cases where a single background helper or telemetry service needs to be removed from memory for the current session only.
  • User-defined RAM profiles. Profiles store complete sets of allowed and blocked processes. A coding profile may keep compiler services and code editors active while blocking browser updaters. A gaming profile can remove overlay helpers, chat clients, and system telemetry. Profiles are switched manually and saved locally as plain configuration data.
  • Manual allowlist control. Each profile contains an explicit allowlist of processes that are never terminated. OwnMemory compares running processes against this list before applying any block rules. Processes absent from both the allowlist and blocklist remain untouched.
  • Manual blocklist management. The blocklist defines which executables are removed from RAM when detected. Entries are added by selecting a running process from the detected list or by specifying the executable name directly. Block rules can be edited, disabled, or deleted at any time.
  • Offline local operation. All scanning, rule matching, and termination actions occur on the local Windows machine. OwnMemory does not send process names, RAM usage data, or profile information to any remote server. Network connectivity is not required for the application to function.
  • Disk-safe memory-only design. The software operates exclusively on processes loaded in RAM. It does not delete, modify, or rewrite files on the hard drive, SSD, or any other storage medium. Termination of a process follows standard Windows process management procedures without file system alterations.
  • Automatic process detection. OwnMemory continuously monitors newly started processes while a profile is active. When a process matching a blocklist entry appears, it is terminated without user intervention. The monitoring interval is fixed and operates in the background with minimal resource consumption.
  • Executable name matching. Block and allow rules support matching by executable filename, including wildcard patterns. This allows a single rule to cover multiple versions of a background helper or telemetry component that share a common naming convention.
  • Session log generation. The application records termination events, blocked process restarts, and profile switches in a local log file. Log entries include the process name, timestamp, and the rule that triggered the action. The log can be reviewed inside the OwnMemory interface without external tools.
  • Startup profile assignment. A selected profile can be configured to activate automatically when Windows starts and OwnMemory launches. This ensures that block rules are enforced from the first moment of a user session without manual profile selection.
  • Protected Windows process awareness. OwnMemory identifies critical Windows system processes and excludes them from termination actions by default. Attempts to add a protected process to the blocklist trigger a warning dialog. This prevents accidental removal of components required for operating system stability.

OwnMemory was created by Gorsetas Ventures Limited, a small development group focused on Windows system utilities. The first public version appeared in 2023 after internal testing that began in 2022. The application is written in C# using the .NET framework, which provides direct access to Windows process management APIs while maintaining a stable graphical interface.
