Pharos

Pharos — Free Download. MCP manager

Pharos is a command-line interface and control plane for discovering, installing, and managing Model Context Protocol servers. It aggregates packages from seven connected registries, enforces immutable versions and lockfiles, and provides an Agent SDK so AI agents can search, install, and maintain MCP servers with in-chat OAuth consent flows.

  • Aggregated registry search. Pharos queries over 133,000 MCP packages from sources including modelcontextprotocol.io, glama.ai, lobehub.com, mcp.so, mcp.directory, and Smithery. A single search command returns results from all connected registries with full attribution to the original source.
  • Single binary CLI. The Pharos CLI is distributed as one Go binary with no Node.js, npx, or sandbox requirements. It installs on any operating system and provides 33 commands for searching, installing, and managing MCP servers without external runtime dependencies.
  • Immutable version control. Pharos applies npm-style guarantees to MCP servers by enforcing immutable versions, generating lockfiles, resolving semantic version ranges, and building dependency graphs with circular dependency detection. This prevents drift and ensures reproducible server installations.
  • Agent SDK. The Agent SDK lets AI agents search the registry, evaluate server options, request user consent, install servers, connect them, and apply updates. Agents can manage the full lifecycle of MCP servers instead of only installing packages.
  • Pharos-Discovery MCP server. This component exposes registry search, installation, and management capabilities to other MCP-compatible agents. It acts as a bridge between the Pharos registry and any agent that needs to discover or maintain MCP servers.
  • In-chat OAuth flows. The MCP Apps integration executes OAuth authorization inside the chat interface. The agent opens the flow, polls the callback endpoint, and stores the resulting token without browser redirects or manual token copy-paste steps.
  • Dependency graph analysis. Pharos builds a complete dependency graph for each installed MCP server and detects circular dependencies before installation. This analysis prevents broken installations and shows exactly which packages a server depends on.
  • Semantic version resolution. The CLI resolves semantic version ranges against the registry, selects the highest compatible version, and records the exact version in a lockfile. Subsequent installs use the lockfile to reproduce the same set of versions.
  • Consent-gated agent actions. Agent-driven installations require explicit user approval before any server is installed, connected, or updated. The consent mechanism prevents unattended agents from modifying the local MCP environment without authorization.
  • Registry auditing. Pharos maintains audit records of which servers were installed, from which registry, at which version, and by which actor. This audit trail supports compliance checks and rollback decisions.
  • Cross-platform installation. Because the CLI is a single Go binary, the same installation procedure works on Linux, macOS, and Windows. No platform-specific package managers or runtime environments are required.
  • Lockfile portability. Lockfiles generated by Pharos can be committed to version control and shared across machines or team members. This guarantees that every environment installs identical MCP server versions and configurations.

The first public release introduced the CLI with registry search and version-locked installation. Later releases added the Agent SDK, the Pharos-Discovery MCP server, in-chat OAuth support, and expanded registry coverage to seven sources. The developers maintain a registry that records provenance and version history for every indexed package.
