Total PDF Converter is a desktop application from CoolUtils Development that converts PDF documents into DOC, DOCX, RTF, TIFF, JPEG, XLS, CSV, HTML, EPS, PS, TXT, PDF/A and other formats. It handles single files or entire folders in one batch, processes documents locally without uploading them to a server, retains the original folder structure, applies OCR to scanned pages, and offers a command-line mode for automated tasks. The program also merges multiple PDF files into one DOC or DOCX file, inserts page numbers into output documents, and extracts embedded images during conversion.

  • Batch conversion of files and folders. The application accepts an unlimited number of PDF documents at once, including complete directory trees added with a single action. Every file inside a selected folder is detected automatically, and the original hierarchy of subfolders is reproduced in the destination path. This removes the need to process documents one by one and keeps large archives organized after conversion.
  • Wide output format support. Documents can be saved as DOC, DOCX, RTF, XLS, CSV, HTML, TXT, TIFF, JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF, EPS, PS, PDF/A and several additional targets. Each format keeps the content structure appropriate to its purpose, so text documents remain editable, spreadsheets keep tabular data, and image formats preserve page rendering for archiving or printing.
  • Built-in OCR for scanned documents. Scanned PDF files and TIFF images are passed through an optical character recognition engine that turns page images into machine-readable text. Recognition can be applied to a whole folder in one pass, and the resulting files become searchable and selectable. This function covers documents that contain no embedded text layer at all.
  • Command-line conversion. Registered users receive a console utility that performs conversions without opening the graphical window. Commands accept input masks, output formats, destination paths and processing flags, which makes the tool suitable for scheduled jobs, scripts and server-side processing where no operator is present.
  • Merging multiple PDF files into one document. Several source PDFs can be combined into a single DOC or DOCX file during conversion. The order of files is defined by the user, and the result contains the sequential content of every selected document. This function simplifies the preparation of reports, contracts and combined reference materials.
  • Page numbering in output files. The program inserts page numbers into converted documents with control over position, alignment and starting value. Numbering is applied during conversion rather than afterward, so the output file arrives ready for printing or distribution without further editing in a word processor.
  • Image extraction from PDF pages. Embedded graphics, photographs and illustrations are separated from the document and saved as independent image files. The extraction works together with conversion, which means a single operation can produce both a text document and a set of pictures collected from its pages.
  • PDF/A output for long-term archiving. Documents can be written in the PDF/A ISO-standardized variant intended for preservation. Fonts are embedded and structural restrictions are respected, so the resulting file remains reproducible on other systems over long periods. This target is used by institutions that must comply with archival requirements.
  • Adjustable page range and layout options. Conversion can be limited to selected pages or page intervals, and the output page size, orientation and margins can be defined before the process starts. These settings let the user produce documents that match the requirements of a specific printer, template or publishing workflow.
  • Conversion reports and logging. After a batch finishes, the application generates a report that lists processed files, their target formats and the status of each operation. Errors and skipped documents are recorded, which helps track down problematic source files in large jobs and provides a record of completed work.
  • Printing and encryption of results. Converted files can be sent directly to a printer from the application, and output documents can be protected with passwords and permission restrictions. These options cover the final stage of a document workflow without requiring separate utilities.
  • Local processing without uploads. All operations run on the user's own computer, and no file is transmitted to an external server. Confidential legal, financial and medical documents stay inside the local environment, which is a requirement in many corporate and government procedures.

Total PDF Converter was created by CoolUtils Development, a software company known for a family of file conversion utilities for Windows. The product has been developed and maintained since the early 2000s, and its first releases established the core conversion engine that later received OCR, PDF/A support, merging, command-line control and batch processing. The application is written in Delphi, a compiled language used for native Windows development, which explains its small distribution size, direct access to system printing and shell functions, and stable operation without external runtimes.
