OriginPage

OriginPage — Free Download. Private document search

OriginPage is a Windows 11 desktop application for searching and asking questions about your own PDF, DOCX and TXT files. Organize documents in separate workspaces, search with hybrid, exact phrase, keyword or semantic modes, and choose which documents each question may use. Supported claims link to saved source passages. Scanned PDF text is reviewed before it can become searchable evidence. Document processing and answer generation run on the PC without document uploads or a cloud model.

  • Grounded answers. This function lets you ask questions across all ready documents in a workspace or restrict a question to a precise selection of files. OriginPage stores the chosen scope together with the generated answer, so you can later see exactly which documents were considered. The feature separates conversation context from factual evidence, meaning that follow-up dialogue does not silently expand the evidence base. If the selected documents do not establish an answer, the system reports that the evidence is insufficient instead of adding general knowledge.
  • Claim-linked citations. Every supported statement in an answer carries its own citation rather than a single reference list at the bottom. Opening a citation displays the saved source passage and its exact location, such as a file name and page number. This design lets you verify each claim individually against the original wording. Citations remain attached to the answer, so revisiting a conversation later still shows which passage supported which statement.
  • Durable organization. Workspaces keep different bodies of work isolated from one another. Inside each workspace you can start, rename, revisit and continue multiple conversations that persist over time. Documents, search results, question scope and conversations stay together in one place. This structure prevents material from one project from appearing in another and keeps the path from a question back to its origin intact.
  • Trusted ingestion. Before a document becomes eligible as evidence, you can inspect extraction facts and the canonical text inside the application. For PDF pages that require optical character recognition, every necessary page must be approved or excluded manually. This review step ensures that only verified text enters the searchable index. The original source file is never modified or deleted during import or processing.
  • Direct search. When you need the source passage itself rather than a generated answer, direct search operates on ready documents. You can narrow results by file or by a PDF page range and choose how matching works. Hybrid search balances meaning and wording, while exact phrase, keyword and semantic modes offer different matching behavior. Matches are highlighted and accompanied by page or section locations, and the surrounding context can be opened.
  • Hybrid search mode. This mode combines semantic similarity with keyword matching to surface passages that are relevant in meaning as well as in wording. It is suited to queries where the exact term may vary between documents but the underlying concept stays the same. Results include highlighted matches with their locations. One query can surface amended clauses, stale instructions and original agreement language without generating an answer.
  • Exact phrase search mode. This mode returns only passages that contain the query as a literal string. It is intended for locating specific clauses, defined terms, identifiers or quotations where wording must match precisely. Because no semantic expansion occurs, the result set stays narrow and predictable. Each hit shows its file and page or section location.
  • Keyword search mode. This mode matches individual terms from the query rather than the full phrase. It helps when you remember several words from a passage but not their exact order. The result list ranks passages by term occurrence and highlights each match. Combined with file and page-range filters, it narrows large document sets to relevant sections.
  • Semantic search mode. This mode retrieves passages by meaning rather than by literal wording. It is suited to questions phrased in your own words where the source uses different terminology. Retrieved passages are shown with highlighted matches and their locations. The mode operates on the local index and does not send content to an external service.
  • Question scope control. For each question you can select all ready documents or a precise subset. The chosen scope is preserved with the answer, so the evidence base remains auditable. Documents that are not ready, such as scanned files awaiting OCR review, are excluded from selection. This control prevents unrelated material from influencing a result.
  • OCR review workflow. PDF pages that contain no selectable text are routed through optical character recognition. Extracted text is presented for manual approval or exclusion before it becomes searchable evidence. Every required page must be reviewed, and the review outcome is recorded with the document. This step keeps unreliable extraction output out of the index.
  • Local processing. Document extraction, OCR review, indexing, search, persistence and answer generation run on the current PC. There is no cloud-model fallback and no separate OriginPage account is required for ordinary document work. Questions, answers, prompts, filenames and extracted text are excluded from application content telemetry. Imported copies and workspace data remain in the application's local storage.
  • Insufficient evidence reporting. When the selected documents do not establish an answer, or when they contradict one another, the application reports this condition. It does not substitute general knowledge to fill the gap. The response indicates that the evidence is insufficient and identifies the scope that was used. This behavior keeps the boundary between source-supported statements and unsupported ones visible.
  • Workspace and conversation persistence. Conversations survive application restarts and can be renamed or continued at any time. Each conversation retains its original question scope and its citations. Workspaces group related conversations and documents into separate projects. The stored data stays within the local application storage on the device.

OriginPage is developed by Fuzzysense and was released in 2026. The application is distributed through the Microsoft Store as a one-time purchase of US$19.99, which includes the application and its local models. It targets 64-bit Windows 11 systems and requires approximately 3.8 GB of storage for the Store package, with 8 GB of memory as the minimum and 16 GB plus SSD-backed storage recommended. Answer generation requires at least 4 GiB of physical memory available before it starts. The current release supports English documents and English OCR. The program is written in C# and built on the .NET framework, which provides the native Windows integration used for local document processing, indexing and on-device answer generation.
