  • Multi-DAW project scanning. The application detects and catalogs project files from ten digital audio workstations including Ableton Live, FL Studio, REAPER, Studio One, Logic Pro, Bitwig Studio, Cubase, Pro Tools, Reason, and GarageBand. The setup wizard automatically sweeps all connected drives for projects, sample packs, racks, Max for Live devices, and plugins without requiring manual import or tagging.
  • Deep Ableton Live integration. For Ableton Live projects, Sessions reads BPM, key, arrangement structure, plugin list, sample references, and loudness data from bounce files. This format receives the deepest level of analysis, extracting detailed session information that other DAWs do not expose in the same way.
  • Bounce playback without DAW. Each project row includes playback controls for the latest bounce file, matched automatically from export folders. Users can audition tracks at 15-second or 30-second intervals or listen to full bounces without launching the host application.
  • Plugin gap detection for collaboration. When receiving an external project file, the app analyzes every plugin requirement and compares it against the local installation. It displays exactly which plugins are missing before the DAW silently bypasses them, preventing broken sessions during collaboration.
  • Plugin Passport export. Users can export their entire plugin collection as a small file to share with collaborators. The comparison shows which plugins both parties have, which are exclusive to each person, and the total overlap count, regardless of what DAW each person uses.
  • Automated import and cataloging. Dropping sample packs, Max for Live devices, racks, or project files onto the Import page automatically files them into correct library locations. Samples go to the sample pack folder, racks to the rack folder, Max devices to their directory, and project files to the sessions inbox. Every import action can be undone.
  • Sample and asset tracking. The library shows which samples and audio files each project references, making it possible to identify missing assets before opening a session. This prevents the common problem of loading a project only to discover broken sample references.
  • Custom metadata system. Users can apply ratings, statuses, tags, and notes to any project. The status pipeline is customizable, allowing producers to define their own workflow stages from idea to finished track. All metadata is stored locally and is searchable within the library.
  • Label and outlet directory. Pro includes a book of over 1,200 labels, radio stations, blogs, and promo channels. Entries include genre focus, origin stories, and demo submission routes. Labels that charge for submissions are flagged before sending, and this flag is available to all users regardless of subscription tier.
  • Demo submission tracker. Each label entry includes a one-click action that opens the demo route and logs the submission simultaneously. The tracker maintains states for each send: sent, no reply, rejected, accepted, and released. Submissions without a reply after 30 days turn amber to indicate follow-up is needed. Reply times are recorded to identify which labels actually respond.
  • Local-first architecture. All scanning, reading, playback, and metadata operations occur entirely on the user's machine. The application never uploads project files, samples, or library data. Scanning is read-only and does not move, rename, or delete any project unless explicitly requested by the user.
  • On-demand label research. For labels not in the directory, users can request research that finds current demo routes and contact information. Each answer includes source links for verification. Research operates on a credit system within the optional subscription.
  • Audio-based genre detection. The system reads genre characteristics directly from bounce audio files rather than folder names or manual tags. It can identify multiple genres simultaneously and runs entirely on the local computer without uploading audio to external services.
  • Label matching shortlist. By combining audio analysis with the label directory, the app generates a shortlist of labels working in the same musical lane. Each recommendation includes the reason for inclusion, demo policy status, fee information, and submission route. Users retain full control over final decisions.
  • Vault cloud backup. An optional subscription feature that backs up the entire studio online with encryption during transfer and storage. Users can mark folders as private, creating an Inner Vault with client-side encryption that only the passphrase can unlock. The recovery code is provided at setup and cannot be reset by the company.
  • Mobile bounce access. A companion phone application plays bounces stored in the Vault, allowing producers to listen to mixes on car speakers, earbuds, or kitchen systems without manual export or file transfer. The mobile app is a free download, while Vault access requires the optional subscription.

The development of Saltado Sessions began as a response to the fragmented nature of music project management. The application is written primarily in Rust for core performance and reliability, with additional components built using TypeScript for the interface layer. The first public version was released in 2024 after an extended private beta period. The development team consists of music producers who identified the need for a tool that respects local file structures while providing comprehensive library organization.
