Speechius

Speechius — Free Download. Speech-Synced teleprompter

Speechius is a desktop teleprompter application that follows spoken words and scrolls the script automatically, removing the need to match a fixed scrolling speed. It supports recording tutorials, delivering presentations and speaking on video calls. Users can pause, repeat a passage or click any word to set their place. The window stays above other applications with adjustable size, text size and transparency. Capture-exclusion mode hides it from common screen-sharing and recording paths. Projects can contain multiple scripts, changes save automatically, and projects can be exported and imported as .speechius files. The interface and speech recognition support English and German. It runs on macOS 13 or later and Windows 10/11.

  • Automatic speech recognition (ASR). The core engine compares incoming speech with the upcoming words in the loaded script and advances the reading position when a match is detected. It does not rely on a timer or a fixed scrolling rate. When the speaker deviates from the script and loses the place, clicking any word in the text re-anchors the recognition cursor to that exact position. This function drives the entire prompter behaviour and keeps the script aligned with live speech.
  • Projects and autosave. Multiple scripts are grouped into projects. Each project can hold several scripts, and switching between them restores the last reading position. Every edit is written to storage automatically, so closing the application or switching projects does not discard changes. This function removes manual save steps and keeps long scripts organized across separate recording or presentation sessions.
  • Import and export. Plain script text can be imported and exported for use in other editors. Complete .speechius projects, including scripts, PowerPoint triggers and skip markers, can be transferred between installations. This function supports backup, migration to another computer and sharing of prepared prompting setups.
  • Capture-exclusion mode. The application uses the operating system's window-exclusion API to keep the prompter window out of common screen-capture paths. It is tested with Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and OBS. On Windows, this function requires version 10 2004 or newer, or Windows 11. It cannot hide text from a camera pointed at the screen.
  • Local-first speech recognition. On Windows, recognition runs locally with bundled speech models. On macOS, the application requests Apple's on-device recognition and displays a notice if the system falls back to standard recognition. Speechius itself does not upload audio or scripts to its own servers. This function determines offline availability and data handling during recognition.
  • Slide triggers. Trigger words can be assigned inside the script. When the speaker says a trigger word, the application sends a command that advances the current slide in a presentation. This function keeps both hands free and the eyes on the camera instead of on a keyboard or clicker.
  • Always on top. The prompter window is kept above every other window, including slide decks and other applications. This function ensures the script remains visible while the speaker operates presentation software or participates in a video call.
  • Multilingual support. Speech recognition and the application interface are available in English and German. The recognition language can be selected independently from the interface language. This function allows a German interface with English recognition, or the reverse, depending on the speaker's preference and the script language.
  • Adjustable transparency. The window opacity can be reduced from fully visible to nearly invisible. This function lets the speaker read the script while still seeing the desktop, slides or call participants behind the prompter window.
  • Click to navigate. Clicking any word in the script moves the reading cursor directly to that word. Holding Shift while scrolling moves the cursor word by word. This function provides manual correction when the recognition drifts or when the speaker jumps to a different section.
  • Adjustable reading line. The anchor line, which marks where the eyes rest, can be dragged to any vertical position. This function allows alignment with the camera lens so the gaze stays on the lens instead of looking down at the text.
  • Adjustable text size. Speaker text can be scaled from 50% to 200% through a compact popover or keyboard shortcuts. Highlight, anchor line and reading position remain aligned at every scale. This function adapts the prompter to different screen sizes and viewing distances.
  • Live transcript. A readout in the toolbar displays the last words the recognizer heard. This function shows whether tracking is active and allows the speaker to intervene immediately when recognition drifts away from the script.
  • License validation. Paid licenses require periodic online validation and can continue offline for up to 14 days after a successful check. This function verifies the transaction ID and connection data needed to confirm the license. It does not attach audio or script content to validation requests.

Speechius was created by Jay Imdahl, with the first release in 2026. The project is developed by a small team focused on speech-driven prompting for people who speak on camera. The application is written in a native desktop technology stack that targets macOS and Windows, using platform speech frameworks and bundled local speech models on Windows. Development started before the first public release and continues with version 1.0.11 introducing projects and autosave.
