ProgDVB is a universal software for watching digital television and listening to radio channels on a computer. It handles satellite, cable, terrestrial, IPTV, and internet broadcasts. The application supports High Definition TV, time shifting, recording, EPG, teletext, subtitles, and network broadcasting. It works with numerous DVB, ATSC, and ISDB-T devices from many manufacturers and also functions without a TV card, using internet sources or files.

  • Multi-standard reception. ProgDVB processes DVB-S, DVB-S2, DVB-C, DVB-T, ATSC, and ISDB-T signals. This coverage allows the same interface to manage different broadcast formats from around the world without switching to separate tools for each standard.
  • Internet TV and radio database. The built-in channel list includes approximately 4000 internet TV and radio stations. Users can expand this list with custom URLs, M3U playlists, or XMLTV sources, making the application a central hub for both broadcast and online media.
  • YouTube clip search and recording. ProgDVB can search for YouTube content directly from its interface. Found clips are playable within the application and can be recorded to disk for offline viewing, removing the need for a separate browser workflow.
  • Time shifting with RAM or disk buffer. The time shift function pauses live broadcasts and resumes them later. The buffer size is unlimited because it can use either system memory or free hard disk space, so a viewer can leave a channel paused for hours without losing the stream.
  • Multiple simultaneous recordings. Independent recording and playback of several channels from one or more devices are supported. A user can record one satellite channel while watching another from a different tuner or an internet source, with each stream saved separately.
  • Picture-in-picture and mosaic preview. The picture-in-picture mode displays a second channel inside the main window. The mosaic function shows a fast preview grid of many channels at once, which helps when scanning for content across numerous transponders or IPTV lists.
  • Electronic Program Guide. EPG data is sourced from Digital TV broadcasts, XmlTV, or JTV. The guide shows current and upcoming programs in a schedule grid, and a click on an entry can switch the channel or set a recording timer for that program.
  • High Definition and H.264 support. The application decodes HD video including H.264/AVC and other modern codecs. Hardware acceleration is used when available, reducing CPU load during playback of 1080p or 4K streams on supported renderers.
  • Ten-band equalizer. Audio output can be adjusted through a ten-band equalizer. Separate presets are stored for different channels or sources, allowing consistent sound levels when switching between quiet radio stations and loud television broadcasts.
  • Teletext and subtitles. Teletext pages are rendered for channels that carry them. Subtitles are supported in teletext, image-based, and closed caption formats, with options for font, size, and background opacity to maintain readability on any display.
  • Renderer support with OSD. Video renderers include VR, VMR7, VMR9, and EVR. On-screen display elements such as channel name, volume level, and recording indicators remain visible regardless of the active renderer, except for the legacy VR mode.
  • Network broadcasting. ProgDVB can broadcast a received channel over a local network. Other devices or instances of the software connect to this stream as a client, enabling multi-room viewing without running separate coaxial or satellite cables to each location.
  • Skin support for GUI and OSD. The graphical interface and on-screen display accept custom skins. Users change colors, button layouts, and menu structures to match personal preferences or to improve visibility on large television screens at a distance.
  • DiSEqC and CAM interface support. DiSEqC switching controls multi-satellite dish setups with motorized or multi-LNB configurations. CAM interface support allows decryption of scrambled channels using a conditional access module and a valid subscription card inserted into the tuner device.
  • Win32 and Win64 editions. Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions are distributed. The 64-bit build uses larger memory space for big channel lists and long recording sessions, while the 32-bit build remains available for older Windows installations.

ProgDVB development began in 2001. The original author is a developer known as Prog, who started the project to create a versatile DVB viewer for Windows. The application was initially written in Delphi, with later versions incorporating C++ components for performance-critical decoding and device handling. Over two decades, the software expanded from basic satellite viewing to a multi-standard platform with internet broadcasting, recording, and EPG functions.
