Ultracopier

Ultracopier — Free Download. File copy tool

Ultracopier is a file management app that replaces standard system copy dialogs with a more capable transfer engine. It handles file and folder operations with control over speed, errors, and collisions. The program manages copy lists, shows transfer details, and supports multiple languages. It runs as a portable tool and serves both casual and advanced users who move data between drives frequently.

  • Error management. The software detects and handles errors during file transfers, including access denied, missing source files, and disk full conditions. Users can define automatic responses for each error type, such as retry, skip, or cancel, which prevents stalled operations and keeps transfers moving without constant supervision.
  • Collision management. When a file with the same name already exists at the destination, the program applies user-defined rules. Options include overwrite, skip, rename, or ask. Renaming rules can use patterns with counters, dates, or original names, giving control over how duplicate files are stored.
  • Speed limitation. Transfer speed can be capped to a chosen value. This keeps network bandwidth or disk throughput available for other tasks. The limit applies to the whole operation or individual transfers, and it can be changed while a transfer is running.
  • Pause and resume. Any active transfer can be paused and continued later. The copy list keeps its state, so operations survive interruptions. This helps when moving large amounts of data across unreliable connections or when a device must be used for another task.
  • Copy list management. Files and folders are queued in a list that can be edited before starting. Items can be added, removed, reordered, or saved for later use. The list shows size, progress, and status for each entry, and multiple lists can be kept for different jobs.
  • Checksum verification. The program computes checksums for source and destination files and compares them after transfer. This confirms that data was written correctly. Supported algorithms include common hash types, and results are reported per file so corrupted transfers can be identified.
  • Buffer and thread configuration. The copy engine allows adjustment of buffer size and the number of worker threads. Larger buffers and more threads can raise throughput on fast storage, while smaller values reduce memory use. The native OS copy mode is also available as an alternative engine.
  • File attribute handling. Permissions, timestamps, and other file metadata can be preserved during transfer. Users choose which attributes to keep, which matters when copying between file systems that store rights differently or when backups must retain original dates.
  • Transfer information display. The interface shows current speed, remaining time, progress percentage, and the number of processed files. These details update during the operation and help estimate how long a job will take.
  • Portable operation. The application can run from removable media without installation. Settings and copy lists can be stored alongside the program, so the same configuration is available on any machine where the drive is connected.
  • Multiple language support. The interface is translated into many languages. Users select their preferred language, and translations are loaded from external files, which also allows community contributions for new languages.
  • Skin and theme selection. The appearance can be changed with different skins and styles. A Supercopier-style skin is included for users familiar with that tool, and style options such as Fusion are available for the underlying framework.

Ultracopier was created by Herman Brule, who remains its main developer. The project began in 2010 as a replacement for the copy dialog in Windows and later expanded to Linux and macOS. Early versions focused on error and collision handling, while later releases added checksum verification, speed limits, and pause support. The program is written in C++ using the Qt framework, which provides cross-platform builds and the graphical interface.
