LumiZoom

LumiZoom — Free Download. Desktop magnifier

LumiZoom is a desktop magnification tool for Windows that enlarges the entire screen, including the Start menu and system dialogs, without creating a separate magnifier window. It offers cursor tracking with an optional centre lock, a coloured pointer highlight, configurable zoom levels, global keyboard shortcuts, light and dark themes, three interface font sizes, and an emergency Esc key. The app runs locally and includes no telemetry, advertising, or account requirements.

  • Full-desktop magnification. LumiZoom enlarges the complete Windows desktop rather than a selected region or a dedicated magnifier panel. The Start menu, taskbar, context menus, and system dialogs are magnified once, so they remain readable and usable instead of being scaled a second time by Windows. This behaviour is the core design decision of the program and distinguishes it from presentation-oriented zoom utilities.
  • Smooth zoom in and zoom out. The program animates transitions between normal view and magnified view. The animation duration is configurable in the settings, so the change happens gradually instead of instantly. This reduces disorientation when magnification is switched on or off during work.
  • Configurable fixed zoom level. A specific magnification factor is set in advance and applied whenever zoom is active. The level is stored in the configuration and restored on the next launch. Fixed zoom avoids repeated manual adjustment and keeps the working scale predictable.
  • Mouse pointer tracking. When magnification is active, the visible area follows the mouse cursor across the desktop. The pointer position determines which part of the enlarged desktop is displayed, so the user can move through the screen without additional navigation commands.
  • Centre lock option. Tracking can be restricted to a locked centre position. In this mode the cursor moves within the magnified view while the underlying desktop region stays fixed. This mode is intended for reading or examining one area without the view shifting on every pointer movement.
  • Tracking speed and animation duration. The speed at which the view follows the cursor and the duration of zoom animations are separate adjustable values. Slower tracking produces steadier movement, while faster tracking reduces delay. These parameters adapt the behaviour to different pointing devices and working styles.
  • Coloured cursor highlight. An optional coloured marker is drawn around the mouse pointer. Both the colour and the opacity of the highlight are configurable. The highlight makes the pointer position visible against complex or low-contrast backgrounds in the magnified image.
  • Global keyboard shortcut. A system-wide hotkey toggles magnification from any application. The default combination is Ctrl + Alt + Shift + 9, and it can be reassigned in Settings, under the Main section. The shortcut removes the need to switch to the LumiZoom window to control zoom.
  • Light, dark, and system themes. The interface supports a light theme, a dark theme, and a mode that follows the Windows system setting. The selected theme applies to the settings window and the tray elements, keeping the control interface consistent with the rest of the desktop.
  • Three interface font sizes. The text size of the program interface can be set to one of three predefined values. This affects labels, menus, and settings controls, so the configuration window remains readable for users who require larger text in addition to screen magnification.
  • Multilingual interface. Interface strings are provided in several languages, and the active language is selected in the settings. This applies to the settings window, tray menu, and notification messages produced by the program.
  • Tray icon operation and startup. LumiZoom runs from the notification area, with the main window hidden when not in use. Launching at Windows startup is enabled by default, so magnification is available immediately after sign-in without manual start.
  • Emergency Esc key. Pressing Esc immediately leaves magnification and returns the desktop to its normal scale. This provides a direct exit from the magnified state if the pointer is difficult to locate or if the shortcut is not at hand.
  • Single-instance protection. Only one copy of LumiZoom can run at a time. Starting the program again activates the existing instance instead of creating a second process, which prevents conflicting magnification states and duplicated hotkey registrations.

LumiZoom was created by Łukasz Kuczek and is distributed under the MIT License. The project is published on GitHub as LumiZoom, with release tags and checksums listed in the repository, and release artifacts built from the source code and build scripts contained there. The program targets Windows 10 and Windows 11 on 64-bit systems and requires administrator permission during installation. It is written in C# on the .NET 8 platform; the build command is dotnet publish LumiZoom.csproj -c Release -r win-x64 --self-contained true, and the Windows installer is produced with Inno Setup 6 by compiling LumiZoom.iss. The installer is self-contained and does not require a separate .NET installation. Windows 7 is not supported because of the application platform and the magnification input API.
