Intessika

Intessika — Free Download. Local notes

Intessika is a desktop application that keeps notes and real files together in one folder on your disk. It supports Markdown, rich text, spreadsheets, drawings, PDFs and Office documents as ordinary files, not a proprietary vault. You can capture text, links and images with a hotkey, annotate PDFs or Office documents without altering the originals, and organize everything in a tree of nodes. Sync the folder yourself with Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or Syncthing. No account, no cloud, no internet required for core work.

  • Notes on disk. Intessika stores every note, spreadsheet, drawing and rich text document as a standard file inside a folder you choose. Markdown files remain Markdown, spreadsheets remain spreadsheets. No database, no proprietary container. You can open, move, back up or delete any file with any tool, without the app.
  • Tree of nodes. The workspace is organized as a hierarchical tree. Each node is a folder that can hold notes, files, links, a README and child nodes. Color coding and badges make branches readable at a glance. Nodes act as project rooms, not just directories.
  • Inbox capture. A global hotkey lets you capture text, links and images from the clipboard into an Inbox before you know where they belong. Later you triage each item into the correct node. Inbox-zero becomes a repeatable workflow instead of a chore.
  • Non-destructive annotation. You can mark up PDFs and external Office documents with highlights, drawings and notes. The annotations are stored by Intessika as an overlay. The original file is never rewritten or modified. This works for client documents, research papers and shared drawings.
  • Mission Control. Selecting a node opens a dashboard for that subtree, not another sidebar. It includes Browse (list, details, filters, tags, golden pins), Start (a launch kit of folders, files, apps and URLs), Tasks (open, done, due), Signals (stale, broken, waiting items), Summary and Enter Context to resume where you left off.
  • Quick search. Ctrl+K opens a search field with advanced filtering across the whole workspace. The search engine is written in Rust, so results stay responsive as the tree grows. You can search by name, tag, badge or content type.
  • Tags and lifecycle badges. Tags filter the tree and mark what matters. Lifecycle badges show status such as draft, active, archived or urgent. The tree filter understands tags: #draft, several tags at once, or a name and a tag together, as in spec #draft.
  • Markdown live preview. In the Markdown editor, links look like links, lists show markers, quotes get rails, fenced code becomes a block and tables are easier to read. Ctrl/Cmd+click opens an http, https or mailto link in your browser. A toolbar inserts block quotes, code blocks, external links and starter tables.
  • Mermaid diagrams. A mermaid code fence in a Markdown note gets a View button. Clicking it opens the rendered diagram in a separate window you can zoom and pan. This keeps diagrams next to the notes that describe them, without leaving the app.
  • Spreadsheet editor. Intessika includes a spreadsheet editor with cell formatting, formulas and a Border menu that opens color and style flyouts on click, previews the line and remembers your last pick for the session. Spreadsheets are saved as ordinary files in the workspace.
  • Whiteboard and drawing. A drawing editor lets you sketch, diagram and annotate on a canvas. Drawings are files inside nodes and can be linked from notes. You can use them for architecture sketches, mind maps and visual planning next to project files.
  • Smart folders. Saved views live in the tree as smart folders. Each smart folder is a rule that collects notes and files matching criteria such as tags, badges or file type. They update automatically as the workspace changes, without moving or copying anything.
  • Learn Intessika tutorial. Help → Learn Intessika opens a companion window beside your workspace, not an overlay. It contains eight levels, from what the app is for through Mission Control and smart folders, plus use cases such as client work, inbox-zero and PDF research. You can search inside the tutorial with Ctrl/Cmd+F.
  • System info and diagnostics. Settings → System shows a snapshot of OS, Office, OCR, cloud clients, permissions and workspace size. A Copy diagnostics button collects the snapshot for bug reports. This helps support without requiring telemetry or accounts.
  • Demo workspace wizard. On first launch, a wizard offers to create a demo workspace with a short Welcome, a five-minute tour and a playground containing a markdown syntax guide, a real spreadsheet and a whiteboard. After setup it offers Open Learn by default and lands you on level 1.
  • Keyboard shortcuts on physical keys. Ctrl+N, Ctrl+P, Ctrl+F and other shortcuts are bound to physical keys, so they keep working on non-Latin keyboard layouts. This avoids conflicts with system input methods and makes the app usable in any language environment.
  • Cross-platform builds. Beta builds are published on GitHub Releases for Windows 10, Windows 11 and macOS 12 Monterey or later on Apple Silicon. Windows may prompt once to let the app run. macOS asks for Files and Folders and Clipboard access on first launch.
  • Local-first architecture. All processing and storage happen on your machine. Intessika reads and writes files directly on the OS filesystem. There is no Intessika account, no Intessika cloud and no server-side copy. Core work needs no network connection.
  • Sync your way. Because the workspace is a folder, you can sync it with Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Syncthing or any tool you already use. There is no proprietary cloud in the middle. Two machines can share the same workspace through your own sync client.
  • No telemetry in the app. The app contains no advertising or tracking SDKs. Document analytics inside the app are computed on your device and stay there. The website uses Google Analytics for aggregate visit statistics, which is separate from the desktop application.

Intessika is developed by a small team that began work on the project in 2025. The first public beta, version 0.1.57, was released on 13 September 2026 for Windows 10/11 and macOS 12 or later. The application is written in Rust, which provides the performance for the tree, search and file operations. The user interface layer uses web technologies rendered in a native shell. The developers describe the app as built with care for clear minds, everywhere, and they publish beta builds on GitHub Releases. The core application is proprietary, while the licence agreement, privacy policies and third-party components are public. Extensions with an open contribution path are planned.
