HiFi Control

HiFi Control — Free Download. Networked audio manager

HiFi Control is a Windows desktop application for controlling networked HiFi audio equipment from brands like NAD, Bluesound, DALI, Monitor Audio, Denon, Yamaha and Marantz. It fills a gap that manufacturer apps leave open: there is no official HEOS desktop app, and the official BluOS desktop app lacks power-user features like hotkeys and system tray integration. The software lives in the system tray, responds to global hotkeys, and supports the Microsoft Surface Dial for adjusting amplifier volume, skipping tracks, or switching input sources without switching windows.

  • Dirac Live profile A/B comparison. The software provides dedicated tools for comparing two Dirac Live room correction profiles in real time. A user can switch between saved filter sets while audio is playing to evaluate differences in bass response, imaging, and tonal balance. This function removes the need to exit the listening position or manually reload configurations through separate measurement software.
  • Configurable global hotkeys. HiFi Control allows assignment of system-wide keyboard shortcuts for volume up, volume down, mute, play, pause, next track, previous track, and input selection. Hotkeys operate even when the application window is minimized or hidden in the system tray. Each shortcut can be customized per device or per group of devices.
  • Cross-device presets. Presets group multiple settings and actions from different devices into a single command. One preset can set a NAD amplifier to a specific input, adjust a Bluesound player to a fixed volume level, and start playback from a selected source. Presets are triggered by hotkey, tray menu, or Surface Dial rotation.
  • System tray mini player. A compact control surface resides in the Windows notification area. It shows current track title, artist, album art thumbnail, and volume level. Direct controls for play, pause, skip, and volume are available from the tray without opening the main window.
  • Microsoft Surface Dial support. Volume adjustment and track navigation can be controlled with a physical Surface Dial. Rotation changes volume in fine increments, and click actions can be mapped to play or pause. The function targets users who want tactile control while working in other applications.
  • Automatic device discovery and reconnection. The application scans the local network for compatible HiFi components and maintains a current device list. If a device receives a new IP address from DHCP, HiFi Control detects the change and restores the connection without manual reconfiguration. Wake-on-LAN packets can be sent to sleeping devices before connection attempts.
  • Spotify and Tidal integration. Playback control for Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect endpoints is built into the interface. Users can browse saved playlists, start playback on a specific zone, and control transport functions. Album art and track metadata are displayed in the main window and system tray.
  • Direct links to product manuals. Each supported device entry includes a link to the official product manual or user guide. The link opens the manufacturer documentation in the default web browser. This function removes the need to search for model-specific documentation when configuring hardware settings.
  • Multi-zone grouping control. HiFi Control can create and manage speaker groups across compatible devices. Group volume, mute state, and source selection are synchronized. Individual zone volume offsets remain adjustable within a group, which addresses different speaker sensitivities and room sizes.
  • Input source management. The software displays all available inputs for connected amplifiers and receivers. Switching between analog, digital, HDMI, phono, and network sources is performed from a single list. Custom input labels can be assigned to match the physical connections on the rear panel.
  • Sleep timer and alarm functions. A sleep timer can be set to stop playback or power off selected devices after a defined interval. Alarm events can start a specific preset at a scheduled time. This function supports automated listening sessions without additional home automation software.
  • Firmware update notifications. HiFi Control checks connected devices for available firmware updates and displays a notification when a new version is detected. The update process is launched from the application, which opens the manufacturer update page or initiates the download depending on device support.

The development of HiFi Control began in 2021 as a response to the absence of a desktop control application for HEOS devices and the limited functionality of the official BluOS desktop software. The initial version supported only NAD and Bluesound hardware. The developer, a software engineer with a background in Windows desktop applications and audio processing, expanded support based on user feedback and protocol documentation. The application is written in C# using the .NET framework. The choice of C# provided direct access to Windows APIs for system tray integration, global hotkey registration, and Surface Dial support. The project remains under active development with HEOS support listed as the next major milestone.
