Orynivo

Orynivo — Free Download. Music player

Orynivo is a free, open-source music player and library manager for Windows, Linux and macOS, focused on managing a personal music collection locally instead of uploading it to a cloud service. Music can be browsed by artist, album, track, genre or folder. The application includes playlists and smart playlists, favourites, playback history, an editable queue, lyrics, artwork management, library search and a Genre Cloud for exploring larger collections. Supported formats include FLAC, WAV, MP3, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, Opus, MKA, DSF and uncompressed DFF/DSDIFF. Available audio outputs depend on the operating system and include WASAPI, ASIO/cwASIO, OpenAL and direct ALSA. Orynivo also supports ReplayGain, a parametric equalizer, gapless playback, several output profiles and, with suitable hardware, native DSD or DoP playback. Native AirPlay 2 output is available as an experimental feature. For collections stored on another computer, the optional Orynivo Server can make a central music library available on the local network.

  • Library browsing. Music can be navigated by artist, album, track, genre, or folder. Each view presents the local collection in a structured way, allowing direct selection without relying on cloud indexing. Large libraries remain accessible through hierarchical grouping and immediate filtering by metadata fields.
  • Playlists and smart playlists. Static playlists store a manually ordered sequence of tracks. Smart playlists generate a dynamic list based on rules such as genre, rating, play count, or file location. Both types update automatically when the underlying library changes, and they can be exported or shared across devices using the optional server.
  • Favourites and playback history. Individual tracks, albums, or artists can be marked as favourites for quick retrieval. Playback history records every played item with a timestamp, making it possible to return to recently heard music or to analyze listening patterns without external tracking services.
  • Editable queue. The playback queue accepts manual reordering, removal, and insertion of tracks while music continues. Upcoming items can be rearranged without interrupting the current song, and the queue survives application restarts when the library database is preserved.
  • Lyrics support. Synchronized and unsynchronized lyrics can be displayed for locally stored music. The application fetches lyrics from configured online services only when this feature is enabled, and the retrieved text is stored in the local database for offline access.
  • Artwork management. Album covers can be loaded from embedded tags, external image files, or online sources. Manual cover search and automatic retrieval are both available, and the selected artwork is cached locally. Cover images remain associated with the correct release even when multiple versions of an album exist.
  • Library search. A full-text search covers track titles, album names, artist names, genres, and file paths. Results appear as a unified list sorted by relevance, and the search can be narrowed to a specific field. Search indexes are updated incrementally when new files are added to the library.
  • Genre Cloud. This visualization groups the entire collection by genre and scales each label according to the number of tracks or albums. Selecting a genre immediately filters the library to that category, providing a fast way to explore large collections without typing search terms.
  • Audio format support. The player handles FLAC, WAV, MP3, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, Opus, MKA, DSF, and uncompressed DFF/DSDIFF. Format availability depends on the operating system and compiled decoder components. Bit-perfect output is possible for PCM and DSD content when the selected audio backend supports it.
  • Audio outputs and DSP. Output profiles include WASAPI, ASIO/cwASIO, OpenAL, and direct ALSA, with selection made per device. ReplayGain normalization, a parametric equalizer, and gapless playback are applied before the signal reaches the output. Native DSD and DoP playback require compatible hardware and driver configuration.
  • Orynivo Server. An optional server component exposes a central music library on the local network. It provides authenticated streaming, remote browsing of the library, artwork delivery, playlist synchronization, and remote library management. The server is disabled by default and does not affect standalone local playback.
  • Internet radio and podcasts. Users can add custom radio station URLs and podcast feeds. Playback of these streams uses the same audio pipeline as local files, including ReplayGain and the equalizer where applicable. Podcast episodes are listed chronologically and marked as played after listening.
  • MusicBrainz metadata and ratings. Metadata can be fetched from MusicBrainz for matching releases, including artist, album, track titles, and release dates. User ratings are stored locally and can be written back to file tags or kept only in the database. Automatic matching uses existing tags and acoustic fingerprints when available.
  • Backup and restore. The library database, settings, playlists, favourites, and cached artwork can be backed up to a single archive. Restoration rebuilds the complete state on the same or another computer. Backups are file-based and do not require any account or external storage service.
  • Plex library access. Orynivo can connect to a Plex Media Server and browse its music libraries as a remote source. Tracks stream from the Plex server through the local audio pipeline. This is useful for users who keep a Plex server but prefer a dedicated local player interface.
  • AI chat and MCP server. An optional AI chat connects to OpenAI-compatible services for library queries and playback control through natural language. A separate MCP server exposes individual tools that can be enabled or disabled, allowing external applications to interact with the library under strict user control.

Orynivo was started as a desktop music player project to address the need for a local-first library manager without mandatory cloud accounts. The application is written primarily in C++ with Qt for the user interface on Windows, Linux, and macOS. Development began in 2020 as a private tool, with the first public release appearing in 2022. The project has been maintained by a small group of contributors who focus on audio accuracy, local data ownership, and support for high-resolution formats. The optional server component was introduced later to allow streaming within a home network while keeping the desktop player fully functional without any network connection.
